I incessantly lurk here.
Picking up random information I probably won't personally use, just because it's interesting and has to do with ebooks.

Although really, I do use it, to sound wise on threads like this.

That's what I thought. I saw the video for amazon's kindle comic -creator- (not kindle comic CONVERTER, that I used) showing how panel view is done. Have you ever read a comic with panel view? to me it seems like it would be too slow to be enjoyable. But i guess it's nice to have. But I have a lot of manga and I don't think it would be feasible to go through the tens of thousands of pages to hard code them manually. I guess I could do the auto-find thing and then have to only do it once for each manga, but meh. Maybe i'll try it sometime. I've yet to be able to get kcc (convert) to recognize kindlegen on my mac, I have to boot into windows JUST to convert stuff.

Anyway, I have one or two more questions for you guys. I was confused until i realized kf8 and azw3 are the same thing. so:

1. In this case my book is a series of images, so is there any advantage to using the azw3 vs mobi? they're the same file size (and in fact the same as the original file. apparently the two copies actually share data like images)

2. in the case of books/comics not bought from amazon, would it be better to convert to mobi or azw3 since they won't have any fancy new features anyway?

For kindlegen problem, maybe read from this post to #86. No idea if KCC still uses Python's TKinter for GUI, I think it changed to QT?
Also double check that you've downloaded kindlegen for Mac

A for old mobi vs azw3 dilemma you should probably stick to azw3, there is no harm in using newer format and not using most of the newer formatting. Panel View is not the only reason KCC uses newer Kindle format.. there was something about better fullscreen viewing and support for higher quality images.

@Doitsu: Just checked, you're right. JMMM doesn't correctly change title or author for dual mobi files. And since the python script doesn't offer editing full set off metadata fields there is still need for Calibre to update it metadata editing. If it can produce dual mobi files it should also be able to correctly change metadata for those files. Lots of people who are using Amazon Cloud for personal documents/sideloaded books are generating dual mobi and sending them because they want to get KF8/azw3 file on their Kindles. Even more people use metadata plugboards for inserting things like series into book title... So some people are bound to use both : D
