I use a refurbished KPW1 that was my cheap backup reader before my PRST-1 got broken. It's perfectly acceptable, and the price was right.

I just bought a couple of refurbished PW2 units. Both came in great condition (and one cost me only $79, same as a brand new entry level Kindle)

I think the original poster can safely conclude that this is a good way to buy a reader.

Refurbished doesn't mean there was ever anything wrong with the eReader or other device. It simply means it was bought and returned. I remember one poster who claimed to have bought and returned 8 Paperwhites in a two-week period because they were all horrible. broken.
I love finding refurbished or open box deals. I was at a CompUSA and they had a row of laptops that had problems. I saw one for $100 with a note on it saying it wouldn't boot. This was years ago. I asked the clerk if I could open it and he shrugged and walked off. I reseated some of the cards, pushed the power button, and it booted just fine. I pointed it out to the clerk and he said, "It's still $100. If you don't want it, I do." I bought it. |

I bought 2 refurbished T3s for 39.95 each.
Received yesterday. Pristine condition, not even a fingerprint. I put 500 books on one and maxed out the other. Read approximately 80 pages on each last night without a hitch. Both refurb units are actually more responsive than my bought new ones, perhaps the firmware is newer, I haven't checked. Seems strange though. I often buy refurb for electronics and have had very few problems. Lenovo being the exception. Helen |
