Sounds like the people at the ball field is using a Cell Blocker the keep ringing phones from distracting the players. They also did that when blasting for the new road... afraid the blast would be set off by a cell phone. But the only thing I noticed during those times I still had WiFi & could with my phone send & receive calls. So should be the same for the reader. As for the ads IF you have them they don't show up when your reading. They show when in sleep mode instead of the Dead Authors. & they are at the bottom of the pages that list the books on it. But once you pick a book to read they don't show. I love them got some great deals over the years

LOL - ringing phones distracting the players at a football match? I'm guessing you've never been to one? It's just a wall of noise from the crowd. It would be absolutely impossible for anyone to even hear a phone ring, let alone be distracted by it.

Actually some people used this.. http://www.zedge.net/ringtone/1333586/ YES the players were distracted. A bunch of kids thought it was funny. So the school got the blocker.

thanks decided to have kindle voyage wifi.

as the kindle fire had wifi which i forgot i assumed it had wifi + 3g .

I have a wifi and 3g kindle and the 3g works even if the signal for phones is bad or non-existent. It takes a while to connect but it will download a book.
