For me it will be my main reader, something to (easy) purchase books, frontlit and not that heavy as my ipad.
Consider a Kindle too, as I love buying books from Amazon, but don't know much of these devices.
Thanks everyone for your opinions, it is really helpful. And I hope to get an ereader soon!
I keep saying the HD is no longer in production. The H2O is the current model. So please stop looking at the HD as you cannot buy one from Kobo. Look at the H2O.

If that is the case, why is it available in the Kobo store when I take a look?

When the H2O first was available to buy from Kobo's website the HD was no longer available. Maybe this is just the rest of the stock of HDs that are left being sold. But given the small price difference and the much nicer screen, I would go with the H2O instead of the HD.

If I was choosing between those two, I would definitely pay the extra $10.

Yes, I do mean that the quality of the Aura (6") an the Aura H2o will be much better than the Sony PRS-T1 or T2. Another thing I forgot to mention is that you can't read the Aura 6" (capacitive) with gloves while you can with the Aura H2o (infrared), which is a consideration when waiting outside for public transport in winter.

You can get gloves with special material on the tips you can use. I have some.

That's one of the reasons I stay away from capacitive touch readers. When you live in a climate that ranges from below 0° to over 100° F, you would need different gloves for different seasons. Not an expense I want to put up with if it can be avoided.

Living in Florida I do not plan testing Kobo readers low temperature limits.
I know IR touch functions down at 0° F, but does Kobo eink screen still function down at 0° F or colder?

I have both the Aura and Aura HD. Honestly I had to return the Aura 5 times to get one without pixel issues and the clarity is not what my HD is. I am picky for my eyes (I can see acceptable variances in prescriptions) - I am a major book worm. As a result it My HD is my primary device with my Aura as my backup. I will have to see how things go with H2O it may be my tax refund treat this spring. I am concerned about the battery. I have a nifty case off amazon that has a built in stand and sleep mode so I can crochet and read - Yes I multi task. If you are a book worm go with the H2O. If you don't mind minutely fuzzy go with Aura.
My warning to you is Kobo support is some of the worst I have seen in 15 years as an IT geek. If I did not love my Aura HD I would never deal with them again. I did purchase my Aura when it first came out through the web site. If I get the H2O I may find a local retailer. Good luck. My Aura HD is my 3rd ereader - I made the jump from my cybook devices because I wanted something reliable.

Because JSWolf is full of false information. I don't know where he gets this stuff or whether he just makes it up. That said, $10 for a better screen and waterproofing is more than worth it.

So the Kobo Aura H2o seems the better one. I definitely got interested in the H20 after reading here all your opinions, although the waterproof feature does not apply to me at all.
I am also looking at the Kindles. How do they compare to Kobo? I am in Canada, by the way. I only purchased books from Amazon or Kobo, by the way, since Sony store closed.

Well, I prefer Kobo, but I like to use my own font, and I like the customization of the Kobo, and I like to use Calibre to load and manage my books and collections.

You, however, stated that you don't care about any of that, and like to download directly from the site you buy from.

In that case, I'd say the Kindle Paperwhite 2 is the more reliable and easiest to use, with the better customer service. A Kindle is what I would buy for a relative who didn't use Calibre and was not familiar with ereaders. A Kindle is for the person who just wants to read, no tinkering required. I'm sure there are non-tinkerers who use Kobos as well.

Just my opinion. I consider the Kobo to be perfect for the advanced user. I got rid of all my eink Kindles and I have 5 eink Kobos. So I am a huge lover of the Kobo reader. But for a beginner, I recommend the Kindle.
