I don't know if they were supposed to be the same but they were exactly the same. Which in my opinion defeated the purpose of separating them, if they were going to show the same content. Now with the newest update, the content which were on the device only shows in the device view, and those that are in the cloud are only showing in the cloud view. And if you will look at the very bottom of the page in the collection, it will tell you how many of the other content is in the the cloud, or on the device, depending on the view you happen to be in. Unfortunately it doesn't let you select that to go to that view, but for me just having the information is good enough for me, at least for now.

Thanks again Harry. I must still be misunderstanding. What's the difference between a Device collection and a Cloud Collection?

Can you create collections that /don't/ sync with the cloud then? Everytime I've created a collection and add books the contents always sync to my other devices ok.

Perhaps you mean that if you don't have any books in a particular collection downloaded onto the kindle that collection no longer shows. Is that it?

They are both showing the same collections, the only difference is one just includes the content on the device [device collections] and one just shows the content of what is in the cloud [cloud collections]. In the device collections you can set them up to show by "starring" them. The cloud view will show you all your collections, the ones marked with stars are the ones you have selected to be seen on the device.

Amazon even added a little explanation on the menu explaining about collections, their text is:

"All your collections are synced to the Cloud.

Tap Cloud in the upper left to see all collections, including those created on other Kindle devices and apps.

Tap On Device to see collections that are on this Kindle.

Tap and hold a collection to add or remove it from this Kindle.

When in Cloud View, collections on this Kindle are marked with a star."

Is that the same thing as the Show In All Views option? Perhaps I'll understand the difference when I get the new firmware. It still sounds the same to me. Mind you, I make each collection to be shown in each view, have the device in My Items view ordered by collection. That way I see all collections first, then at the end are books not in any collection.

Has the collection view on device changed, i.e. do you still see the books for a collection that haven't yet been downloaded? Thank you.

Ok, look at your collections now on the device itself. Do you see how you see the greyed out books? Those are the ones in the cloud. In the update you will no longer see those. These will now become a total at the bottom of the page with text that says "xxx more items in the Cloud"

Now switch to your cloud view. This is the same, you see both the ones on the cloud and the ones on the device [these are marked with a check].

I'm waiting to upgrade until the devs get a handle on things, but finally!

I've yet to see any posts about Word Wise. How is it? Can you set the difficulty to a high enough level that it's not distracting for trivial words? Have any native speakers who read at an adult level found the feature to be useful?

This is great isn't it our collections are split between me and hubby and it's working perfectly.
