Thanks!
Regarding the add books code: I see. Does that mean it might be advisable to disable source when adding books, for the time being? And does that only apply to Windows? If so, then no big loss, I just happened to be in the school lab at the time, and wanted to quickly test the book, but normally all work is done on my linux machine. |

Dear kovidgoyal,
I have just upgrade Calibre to 2.10 (Portable version), and now the popup panel shows. However, another issue arises. The positions of "before clicking on note", "footnote on", and "footnotes off" are different. I was still testing on the file previously posted. Yet, the issue is found only on "page mode," as it works fine with "flow mode". Before clicking on note (3) ![]() Footnote on ![]() Footnote off ![]() Edit: If the Footnote panel is afloat, it is fine. Last edited by nqk; 11-14-2014 at 01:45 AM. |

Yes that will happen because when you open the popup the size of the page changes. If you dont want that to happen have the popup open in its own window by clicking the little square button in the top right corner of the popup

![]() some minor questions 1. I couldn't dock to side edges, only top and bottom, it is disabled or is it my incompetent mouse - I believe its faster glance to left or right than glance up and down. 2. In heavily annotated texts it would be nice to have previous/next note buttons - with accelerator keys if possible - Alt↑ & Alt/↓ would be my pick ![]() 3. The docking icon context menu has check boxes that hide/reveal the search and icon bars - but they are unlabelled in Windows at least. See screenshot. 1 and 3 are bugs.
2 is not possible except with books that use specialized markup to identify notes, as such it is not worth implementing. |

diferent problem with endnotes
1>in order to avoid errors when testing epub with ebookchecker.exe
I do all my editing and later conversion using docx word files. 2>everything works all right converting the docx either to epub or mobi/azw3, except the format of the last pages of the book. in all three formats (epub / mobi / azw3 ), after the last page of book text, it displays one page for each endnote. instead of having all as a list on one page ( my actual book has 7 end notes) the hyperlink between the endnote reference and the endnote text works all right back and forth. the style used on the endnote is the "Endnote Text" hope is clear that all is working extremely nicely except the "page brake" between the endnotes any way to solve this pls ???? have verified the output on following displays, all showing the problem: calibre e-book viewer adobe digital editions kindle paperwhite 2 gen, version 2_5..6.1 the problem replicates 100% testing with a small file of 20 lines of text and 4 end notes. if I use word webpage filtered files AS INPUT TO CALIBRE , the end notes appear all in one page as a list, but on the adobe digital editions, the end notes get into the adobe shown TOC ???? AND I get all kind of errors message testing the Epub generated file with ebookchecker.exe, so I will love to be able to use the DOCX files. THANKS IN ADVANCE JUAN ABBA |

The DOCX-to-EPUB conversion puts each note on a different page, by design.
Is there any particular reason to want them all on one page? It's not like the book is any fatter because there are "more pages". Just saying, I have never found it to be a problem, but if you really don't like it for whatever reason then you can always edit the CSS if it is using page-break or Merge files if it is putting each on a different page. |

Search the raw HTML of the EPUB for the file(s) with the endnotes, and check which CSS classes affect them as well as what CSS rules they apply. The Live CSS panel may help with this. If there is a page-break-{before|after} you will want to delete it. If each endnote has its own file, you will want to select all those files in the File Browser pane and right-click ==> Merge files. Knowledge of basic HTML+CSS can be very useful when making ebooks, you might wish to read for example @Pablo's tutorial. ![]() Last edited by eschwartz; 11-23-2014 at 11:47 AM. |

Hi eschwartz
thanks a lot by coincidence after sending my question I spent several hours reading @Pablo's tutorial. Plus the calibre manual, specifically the more technical sections I never explore before. Very good material indeed. Thanks to that I feel at easy reading your comprehensive recommendation. I’ll let you know the results, Merging the individual files were the individual endnotes are looks promising. thanks a lot by all means juan abba |

Hi eschwartz
The “files merge” worked as expected, all ( 4 ) endnotes are on one page. Using the kindle as the viewer it works all-right. Every time an endnote is called, the reader shows the right one on a different windows, exactly as desire. At the end of the book, the 4 endnotes appears on one single page. But there is no free lunch as normally. On the EPUB using the ADOBE DIGITAL READER the story is different. Every time an end note is called, it displays all of them together. but at the end of the book, the 4 endnotes appears on one single page as expected. On the “calibre e book viewer” the epub works allright, like on the kindle. I will try tomorrow with a physical epub reader to see the final result. Thanks a lot again for your guidance and support.
