Thanks Dr. Drib. Just read Mounting the Fat Lady this morning on my way to work. It made me smile so I'm hoping that's mission accomplished.
I don't have a strong acquaintance with absurd literature, so I'm not sure if I approach it the "correct" way if there is such a thing. I felt a strong parallel between the fat lady and a family pet. Pets usually have a level of access to our personal space that we don't allow guests and the casual way in which you gave the fat lady access to the family's more private moments seemed similar to that granted to the family pet. Even the extreme decision made about the fat lady reminded me somewhat of how more over-the-top pet owners might decide to commemorate a faithful pet. I'm not sure if you were going for this at all, but this is what came to mind as I was reading. |

Thank you, caleb72, for the compliments.
Actually, I hadn't thought of that - but I think that comparison makes sense. I actually realized (a month or so after writing it), that I was remembering all the things my family enjoyed doing and that I miss doing with them when I was a child growing up in the 1950s-60s. The absurdity, of course, is wrapped around those memories. -- But, as you mention, the comparison you make fits in perfectly with that absurdity. Thank you, again. |
