I suspect the only .0001% of the Calibre users use any part of this (custom resource) option. (and a good chunk of those hang out here at MR )
Those that want to, can navigate their OS the few times they need to grab a 'master copy'

The trick, is knowing when your modified copy becomes really stale (the master has seen official upgrades) and you need to revisit your customizations.
