Two questions:
1. Does anybody happen to know where I can find a 1.8V ref on the Voyage motherboard? Right now I'm generating it with a regulator, but would rather eliminate that if I can. 2. The bit of plastic near the top that has a magnet and a RFID (?) chip: Does anybody know what that's used for? It doesn't seem to be connected to anything. Removing it would leave lots of space for the USB-Serial board. |

IIRC, there's been a rfid chip stuck on the inside of the case since the K2 or the K3, we assume it's used during the manufacturing/shipping process.

For my Voyage, I ended up finding a 1.8v ref inside, and ended up tearing off the pad when I was trying to permanently solder a serial adapter into place. Oh well, at least that happened after I got the Jailbreak on. I'll leave the permanently-connected adapter until next time I need to open it up. |

Thanks!
I was interrupted in my KT2 Exposed thread right after I had made plans for add-in adapters. But I still have the room-full of materials and (modern) pcb construction things that had been ordered at that point in the thread. Perhaps I will get some hobby time this summer to pick up that project again. |

Get the wire ended, FTDI adapter cable specifically built for 1v8 volts.
http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Docu...2RG_CABLES.pdf That would be the TTL-232RG-VREG1V8-WE model. This is the same one that was recommended at this site for years (although many people thought it too expensive). - - - - NOTE: My advice to you still stands - If you intend to wait a couple of years until you use the serial port interface, you should also wait a couple of years before selecting the serial port interface hardware. Today's decision may not be the best decision available when you get around to doing this. Last edited by knc1; 06-27-2015 at 07:15 AM. |

After reading the post from the guy who put a Bluetooth-Serial module in his, I've been toying with the idea of doing that, but using a 555 or something to turn it off if it's not paired within a couple minutes, to save battery. Could put that on a little PCB with a level shifter for the serial interface. Probably be compact enough to fit in the Voyage case.
