Well, it is kind of smart not to rely on a huge nest egg in cash, and instead own a wide variety of previously independent companies or creating them yourself.

As explained later in the article (I hadn't yet read that), an engineering degree is a different type education and trains you to think differently than an MBA does. I studied engineering initially and architecture later, taking a degree in neither but enjoying both because of the thought processes involved.

I was rather impressed by his base salary - 81K a year. Miniscule by normal CEO standards. He does end up with about 1.7 mil annually "(most of which consists of company-provided security)."
