Amazon's customer service is second to none.
And to me there really are no good alternatives with the selection, hardware, prices, and staying power regarding ebooks. |

Agreed! The things that I buy from them, electronics, etc. will remain consistent, with all images turned off and all possible advertising blocked.
If it's food or household related - cleaning products, etc. - I'm taking a break from them until they change the site again. No one who shoves anything down my throat with regards to advertising gets any more of my money than necessary for me to be happy and comfortable. I don't even let Google advertise to me. My money, my rules. ![]() This is a new site change, and like the other site changes, it will be different before long or I will be dead. Either way, it is now unimportant ![]() ETA - they won't be getting much in terms of book money anymore, either. I have three libraries to use and it's much better and quicker to get the titles I want. Last edited by pghaworth; 10-26-2014 at 02:15 PM. |

How about book prices? Amazon has a nasty habit of beating their competition's prices. That's a behavior that I want to encourage.

I've been buying Kindle books for several reasons (in no particular order):

Between my kids, my husband, my parents and me, we read here in 4 languages. Amazon is the only seller that, independantly from the country we are ordering from, will offer books in all 4 languages. My parents order from amazon.fr either french, english or spanish books, and we order from amazon.de or amazon.com books in all 4 languages without any troubles.
The offer for spanish, german or french books from other sellers is ridiculously small, and when they happen to have the book we are looking for, amazon beats or equals them at the price almost every single time. Plus whispersync..... |

My husband speaks and reads several languages, I speak three, though not fluently due to lack of opportunity to use, and my son speaks three. I love languages! If I were to buy books in other languages, Amazon would be my choice. |

I live in Oaxaca, Mexico, and read in English. When I decided to get an ereader I was only interested in availability of books in English, conveniently, in Mexico. Everything else I've learned about Amazon has come since then and Amazon has been, for me, outstanding.
I am really not at all interested in the devices. I like e-ink and the front-light is great. |

And another plus for amazon and their kindles : their dictionnaries are exceptional. If I was only reading in english, I guess I could be very happy with kobo. But as the kids have these 4 languages (french, spanish, english and german) also at school, dictionaries are important. Now my oldest is also learning mandarin and I need to look into that for his kindle, don't know wether it would be possible at all fro him to read mandarin books on it... |

The selection of Spanish language material on Amazon is orders of magnitude greater than anywhere else. |

It also includes a download option for Chinese dictionaries, so one figures it must handle Chinese ebooks, though whether simplified or traditional I couldn't tell you. |
