Maybe they're just not counting the ones that PVI uses for their own Netronix devices, and by extension all the rebranded Netronix devices?

I hope someone will offer a cheaper device.
Possibly two reasons:

1) When the devices were designed and built - the panels were still a lot more expensive than they are now.

2) Sony/Amazon etc. have been designing the devices for maybe 2/3 years, the team need to be paid and the bills need to be paid and there are the materials as well, not forgetting any panels broken by the R&D stages. the companies have a lot of units to sell before they can break even on the bills for the creation of the device. And if they cannot make the departments profitable they will get shut down. Someone has to pay for the R&D stage and that is the early adopters - us I'm afraid (always has been; always will be)

Wait a while longer, the prices will come down...

I don't particularly trust these so-called analysts, especially those that have to estimate units sold. I don't think e-book device manufacturers have sold a huge number of e-books. Otherwise, they would be bragging about it in their annual/quarterly reports to reel investors in. I live and work in a U.S. metro area, ride the train daily, and I think I've seen 1 person with an e-book (not sure which). I don't hear anyone talking about them. And given the U.S. economy (which is to a lesser extent negatively affects world-wide economies) and people cutting back on non-essential spending, I doubt e-book device sales this year will exceed last year's sales.
