It could be the updated RMSDK. Also, I think ADE creates them, or some of them, if you use it to send the books. But, it's been a long time since I did that, so my memory could be wrong.

I'm wondering about the potential for the ADE info to be phoned home as per the recent thread in the News section.

I've been following that thread as well. So far that seems to need running ADE 4 on your computer. From what I've read around the Net, it begins to seem that running any version of ADE newer than ADE 2 is "Not A Good Idea".

From what I've read and seen with ADE 4 running on a virtual machine, it would appear that it wants to send home information on ebooks in your Adobe library on your local machine and, for Kobo ereaders, information on ebooks in the internal storage that have been opened so they have entries in the Digital Editions/Manifest directory if your Kobo ereader is connected when ADE 4 is running.

The interesting point for me is that
  1. I use ADE only for borrowing library books
  2. The restrictions on giving out information on library borrowing habits are quite strict. For a library in BC, the following applies:

Libraries should not keep a history of what materials a patron has borrowed, except where the individual consents. Once an item has been safely returned, reference to it should be removed from the patron’s record.

BTW, the definition of consent as used above is referred to as "informed consent" whatever that may mean to a lawyer.

So do you think that ADE4 gets the info it needs to send home from the device Digital Editions folder?

I'm also wondering about when someone has wifi on - whether the device the Digital Editions file has been programmed to send info back home, irrespective that it's not connected to a computer?

(doesn't affect me, I never use wifi on my Glo)

The Digital Editions folder seems the source of the information sent by ADE 4, at least, that what I found from my Wireshark captures. The 2000+ epubs on the external uSD card didn't show in the data I captured but the 3 test epubs on the internal storeage did.

WiFi is irrelevant to your Kobo since ADE 4 is running on a computer connected to the ereader. The Adobe RMSDK running on the Kobo does not seem to have that capability--as yet.
