No.
The Kindle is an ARM cpu. Although Debian provides the same selection of packages for Intel and for ARM. OpenSUSE is one of the most customized of Linux Distributions. It is not first choice for porting off of the desktop. Stick with Debian. - - - - - @dsmid: Sorry for passing on bad information. I know that my questions are getting old- I'm just trying to get my bearings.
![]() In Dos1's thread (see the link above in an early post), and it sounds like that you download and install debian to your computer (I found a 200mb armel download on debian's site) alongside your current os. Then you apply Dos1's patches (which I have), chroot it, and then put it on the kindle. The debian download I have is a debian wheezy because I couldn't find sid anywhere. Part of the reason for my confusion is that twobob is not good at explaining things in a language beginners can understand, and because most of the links in that thread don't exist anymore. The thread is helpful, I'm just having hard time understanding what twobob is doing... Also, what is multistrap and is it necessary? It would be great to get debian to work in a similar fashion to what's on desktop computers. One last thing: is it possidble to get to the / part of the kindle file system? I was exploring the section with KindleExplorer last night, and I found out where the screensavers are. The screensaver hack doesn't work on my kindle... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by pdf4664; 10-09-2014 at 10:01 AM. |

I think you misunderstood me. What I meant is that if I read the first link more carefully, I might have understood it better. I didn't just not read anything.

Almost finished- just one question:
OK, I got my ext3 container file done and its on my desktop on my computer. I got debootstrapped debian done with a few custom modifications; I also have that on my desktop on my computer. How do I put the debian folder into the ext3 container file while its still on my computer? The computer is Linux Mint 17. |

The container file: sudo mount ext3.container /mnt/tmp The debian folder: cd ~/debian-folder The contents of one into the other: sudo cp -a * /mnt/tmp (Must be done as root to preserve devices and other special files.) go back home cd release the loop file: sudo umount /mnt/tmp |

I tried what you said, as well as a ton of variations of it, but I'm afraid it didn't work. It kept saying "debian.ext3: no such file or directory". Oh well. I think I have a solution, but it will be later in the week before I can try it.
Quick question though; I have duokan installed on my paperwhite and I really like it. However, is there a way to run KUAL on it? I have it on Kindle OS, and I love it. It would be great to simply put the KUAL.azw2 on duokan, and then use it to launch the apps I have in the extensions folder in the root directory. If not, I'm going to see if I can't get my debian launcher to work on duokan. This is a little of topic, but are there any hidden duokan shortcuts? Last edited by pdf4664; 10-13-2014 at 09:07 AM. Please re-ask the question using the actual names of the directory into which you have multi-strapped the Debian distribution tree - AND The full path/filename of the file you are using as an ext3 file system container. OR Please describe what you do have, if not the above. "Better Questions - Better Answers" |
