I'm sure it's much simpler but I like to be able to read on both platforms.

Which in general will require you to download twice, since the the encryption is different for each Kindle device or app.

Then simply "Download and Transfer via USB" for your KK, and when you want to read on your PC open up K4PC and select to open the book from your Cloud tab, it will automatically open.

You do not NEED to send the book from Manage Your Content and Devices, and IMHO is only useful for an ereader not connected to WiFI. If your PC can access the website, then K4PC can access the server.

Thanks but I prefer to download to my PC then use Calibre to send to my Kindle keyboard. It has a good app for organising my collections (that I like better than the Kindle one). Also can download magazines for Kindle. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend. And it's free.

As a heavy user of calibre, and a heavy user of the Collections Manager kindlet (which hooks into NiLuJe's Kindle Collections plugin), I agree.

I personally think that K4PC is good for nothing but downloading books into calibre, for people who don't have an e-ink.
calibre's builtin reader does a better job of displaying books, on the odd occasion I need to read on the computer, and is only lacking annotations -- a feature I don't use.

So I only download once -- via my KT, and load that into calibre as a backup.

Agreed, but it is very useful for that purpose, so simply send the book to "Kindle for PC" at the time that you buy it. No need to mess around with the "Manage My Content" stuff at all.

Since I own a registered device I find it easier to "Download to PC" at the time of purchase. It produces a simple second screen to choose which registered device and the download starts. No going to "Manage My Content" and no dealing with launching Kindle4PC to perform the download.

Me three. I have a huge distaste for hoop jumping. It is just not a problem, even under linux, to buy a book from Amazon and immediately download load it via the web browser. It's certainly far less involved than switching the shipping to super saver after ordering something physical with one click, which I sometimes accidentally do.
