yes, amazon.fr works, but i would assume it would be completely separate from amazon.com no ? different servers / hosting etc. no ? so one wouldn't affect the other. or am i wrong ?

Okay, it LOOKS like they're back up. While I'm here and have your attention, how do I know when the Kindle is fully charged?

Cool. Thanks. Does the battery have a "memory", or can I go ahead and safely use it with a partial charge?
...And crap, they're back down again. |

In the meantime, why not browse the e-books section for some classic style literature? Good stuff in there. |

LiPoly batter = no memory effect. Only real caveat is if you are going to not use your device for a month or longer leave it at about 40% charge. It will help prevent premature reductions in battery capacity.
I'm not sure if the Kindle has any "smartness" in the battery circuitry or not...if so there might be a need to calibrate the battery by doing a full drain then charge it back up. But this is just so the system knows the battery actual capacity not the theoretical capacity. FYI draining a LiPoly/LiIon batery will not harm the battery. But as a rule they do work best given more frequent charges than the older NiMH which you HAD to drain due to memory effect. |

btw, I finally got connected to the store for the first time...seems they are back up...for this microsecond at least. Guess it takes a while to re-route a whole server farm.
