Yep. Funny thing is, a DRM-ed Topaz will work, where a non-DRM-ed one won't (assuming you're pals with Alf). That will get imported as an HTMLZ file.

I do not think that is correct? A DRM'ed .tpz file can be stored in Calibre, but as far as I know it cannot be converted, and the viewer cannot show its contents.

Yep. With a legally purchased, DRMed Topaz book, you at least have a shot at conversion (with the help of Alf). A drm-free Topaz book is pretty-much the dead-end of a one-way street. Read it with a Kindle device/app or throw it away.
