Especially since it is just a software switch that Amazon can toggle ON/OFF. I cannot imagine Amazon not being willing to take another $20 to turn it OFF!

I think that Next-Gen Paperwhite Display actually classifies the Voyager as a Paperwhite too. I'm guessing it is like calling the Paperwhite model a Chevy and the Voyager a Cadillac. Voyager is apparently viewed by Amazon as a premium reader compared to the Paperwhite, hence the premium price.

A lot of people are angry about the price, but if it actually works correctly then I don't mind paying more. Let us hope they finally got it right.

I agree, the turn off option will be available for the Voyager Special Offers. Has the price been determined yet?

Also, in googling the issue I discovered they can be turned off by changing one file.

If I had purchased the Special Offers, I'd leave them on. They do not interfere with reading at all. They display in menus and the cover.

However, the difference in delivery dates means that different production runs or factories will produce them. The later date deliveries with Special Offers turned off may be different units inside, physically.

Currently they list the SO WiFi model at $199 and the WiFi w/o SO at $219, so that is $20 difference. Hopefully they will keep the buy out option at $20.

The only thing about the SO I didn't like with the PW2 was that when you opened the cover the auto on feature took you to a SO offer page rather than to the book you were reading. No big deal, but...

I ordered mine last night wifi only without special offers. My estimated delivery is Oct 24-Oct 28, I also used the deferred payment plan. I am upgrading from a PW1. Can't wait, so excited!!!

I agree, it doesn't make sense. There must be some factor going on which is causing this large delay in SOME of the non-SO delivery dates.

I'm just going to wait for mine on Nov 28. I have no idea why they are coming later than others but there must be some reason.

I'm glad I ordered one yesterday with a "guaranteed" delivery of October 21, 2014.

Edit: I just ordered another Voyage WiFi with Special Offers and not only no 2 day shipping option, but estimated shipping date November 25.



Just a reminder - if you have an early shipping date and change anything about your order on Amazon (such as shipping speed and perhaps even the color of your cover) your shipping date will move back to the current estimated shipping date - so don't touch that order LOL!

I think some of you might be looking for conspiracies where there aren't any, since you can remove the offers from that version later, you would logically expect them to order a lot more of that variant to start out with since it can be converted anyway.

Equally the demand for the non-SO versions may simply be higher since this is their premium model, people are already spending a fair amount over the cost of a pw so might just decide sod it and pay the extra $20 this time round.
