Correction, it is a sequel to Blindsight which was nominated for both a Hugo and a John W. Campbell Award a few years ago. It is available for free at the author's site too: http://www.rifters.com/real/Blindsight.htm

The new one looks interesting, thanks for mentioning that this was a sequel I would have missed it.

Mr Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore in the Kindle Daily Deal. Will likely be an age before I start it though as I have a huge stack of books still to read and am currently in the middle of The Stand which will take me some time :P

Is that the original version or Mr. King's extended version?

I bought the original at a used book sale as I forgot that there was the extended edition also. After a lot of swithering, I decided just to read the version I have rather than seek out the extended one. I've read a lot of arguments one way or another for which is "better" but I thought I'd read the version set in the "original" time period as the update seems a bit weird to me and apparently plenty of others agree. Depending on how much I enjoy it I might give the other version a go, though.

Ah ok. From what I understand the extended version is pretty much like the original release of the book just with some more stuff that Mr. King was forced to cut (due to concerns about length) when it was 1st published. Some stuff he cut stayed cut (according to the forward in the extended version) but some stuff was restored as he felt it added to the story. That's pretty much a personal judgement call though I think as to which is better.

Thanks for the information yeah, that was the impression I got, so I decided to go with the convenient option, which was the book I already had! If I enjoy it enough I'll maybe read the other version eventually.

The most recent novel I got (and that I'm currently reading) is "The Skeleton Road" by Val McDermid. I had never read anything by her, but it's an entertaining, well-paced thriller.

The most recent non-fiction book I bought is "Let it go" by T.D. Jakes.
