I agree. I have 4000+ books on my Nexus 7 and they only use about 4GB out of the 32GB storage. I can only really see it mattering if you want to carry around lots of video, and there are easy solution for copying files from external drives, should that be a requirement.

And like you mentioned previously, I don't have to deal with the restrictions Google keeps imposing on the cards with each OS upgrade. I still have 20GB free on both tablets, leaving me with plenty of room to add some audiobooks, music, and videos if I took a trip.

My Nexus 7.2 is 16gb and I've never had a space issue, though I don't download movies.

Last I read, the Fire HDX is not able to be rooted. I have two 2012 Fire HD tablets that are rooted, but last I read, an update prevented unrooted 2012 HD's from being rooted. The Fire OS on the 2013 Fire HD was also unable to be rooted, unless something has changed.

In my opinion the best tablet to get is the Nexus 7 2013, or wait for the next one.

Price wise, now is a GREAT time to get the 2013 Nexus 7.

I agree. It's half the price of the equivalent iPad Retina Mini, and equally good, to my mind (I have both).

Really? I found the sensitivity of the ipad touch-screen to be superior to any Android tablet I've tried. There has to be a reason it's so pricey.

Yes, really . As I say, I have both a Nexus 7 and an iPad Retina Mini.

Yikes. I didn't know that. Saying that, I use the external card only to store media. Presumably this limitation won't stop any app from reading say an ebook or an mp3 or a video file, no matter the location? If so, that would be a massive pain.

Personally, I do find an external card an essential. I suppose it depends on how much internal memory the tablet has.

No, there's no problem reading from an SD card; the problem only occurs with writing to it. It means that an app like CC can't store books in any location on the SD card except the folder that CC "owns" on the card. It also has the side effect that, should you ever need to uninstall CC, all your books will be deleted.

There is. It is the picture of the Apple.

There is only one source for iPads, and a lot of demand for the cool factor it evokes. (Less than there used to be.)

Basic supply and demand. Price comes from demand. It may not be worth it to produce in the first place if the price that the market will bear doesn't create profit. But the price still comes from demand.

So that means if I make a folder that is entitled books, and set it for the Calibre Companion it will work fine, or no?

No, it will not work.

I don't know the exact details, because I don't have a KitKat device with an SD card, but if you look in the CC forum there's a sticky there which explains it.

There is some useful information about how KitKat handles SD cards at the Android Platform Google Group.

Also, a bit of an article about it at Android Central.

O, well thanks for the heads up. I'll just settle for the Memo Pad 7 with Android 4.3.
