I'm on the helpline now, the lady has confirmed the dollar price is $180
Edited to say they hasn't got a clue. Well that's far too much for me £140 I could have lived with but not £180 Last edited by Josieb1; 09-01-2014 at 11:46 AM. |

Interestingly enough, I just went to Kobo's website (in the US) and clicked on e-ink devices. The H2O isn't even showing up for me at all. It was listed in the line-up before with a "pre-order" image on it. But now, the e-ink line up I'm seeing only includes the mini, touch, glo, aura, and aura hd. I'm sure this is just a glitch as they get the pre-order thing worked out...but you would have thought they would have this whole process set up before. I'm not planning on ordering an H2O, as I just got my HD a few weeks ago so I'm not worried by it--just find it interesting.

I wasn't planning on pre ordering. I work in IT so I thought they would like to know in case they had made a mistake, but no I was brushed off by the help line, all i got was 'devices are different prices in different countries'
Charging the same in pounds as in dollars is robbery. |

You can't really compare the Aura 6" to the Aura HD or Aura H2O. The HD was priced much higher than the Glo which it replaced because it was a higher resolution and larger screen (and it is still at a $30 premium to the Aura 6" even though it is an "older" device). The same screen difference applies to H2O vs Aura 6". The proper comparison would be H2O vs HD which is a $10 difference.

Sounds like a huge error on their web site. Maybe once the holiday skeleton crew is replaced by the regular staff, they can get it corrected. |

My mistake. I was thinking I remembered complaints about them using the same numeric price across the board in past (i.e. same in £ as $ and ignoring the exchange rate difference) in past. At a £50 premium to Aura HD, that's pretty steep.

Just remember the uk price is including 20% vat while US prices don't normally include that.

Kobo actually just emailed me and asked for screen shots of the two different prices on their web site. If the comparison page goes up to £180 it's all my fault

I do think it must be a mistake and it's just mix up with them copying the Canadian $ price across. £139.99 is a far more realistic price, which is why I mentioned that £180 is far more expensive than CAN$180, and so much dearer than the previous model - and yes I meant the Aura HD (which I though retailed at £139 on release although its now £129?).
It must be a mistake, if they contact you again Josieb1, point out to them that £180 is equivalent to over $300 in Canada. Even taking into account any taxes that might need to be added to the Canadian price, that's crazy. |
