When I email a AZW3 file to the Kindle, I get a "A problem with your document" email from Amazon. Tried it with my PW2 and my sisters Kindle Touch.

Just to clarify, are you saying mobi does not support ToC that has sub-chapters?

That is a different problem. Amazon's Personal Documents service by email does not support AZW3.

Some people have had success emailing a dual-MOBI (contains MOBI and AZW3 sections) but you will lose covers.

Personally I find it simpler to sideload via USB.

Does mobi not support expandable parts in the ToC, like in the epub in my screenshot? Or is this functionality that could be added to Calibre?

I send to multiple devices, often times remotely, so USB isn't really an option.

Like I said, you can try converting to dual-MOBI, and emailing that to Amazon. They will split it into AZW3 to sync to your device, but you will not be able to see the cover in cover view due to bugs in Amazon's processes.

Found an epub that converts to mobi with the ToC staying almost identical. Mobi ToC is just missing the contents link, which is no big deal.

I still don't get why this book converts fine but all the other books with nested links I've tried get screwed up. Haven't changed any settings, but I did just update to 2.10.

You do realize the Calibres Viewer is EPUB only. All others convert on the fly.

To really view Mobi, you need to use a device that views Mobi or a Kindle viewer
