You should certainly buy a T68 knowing what it is you're getting. It makes a great bookreader (for me at least); it may not be so great if you have other needs.

It's worth noting that, speaking personally, the touchscreen accuracy issues were all but eliminated by the firmware update for the Lynx (Artatech) version of the T68, but it appears that they remain present in the Onyx International version of the device.

Hi Harry--

I just got my T68 Lynx yesterday, and the touchscreen is making me crazy. I keep hoping for a firmware upgrade, and haven't gotten one yet. Can you tell me what version is the upgrade? Mine is Kernel version 3.0.35 dated Thu Jun 26 16:19:25 CST 2014

To refresh my mind, please, the Amazon version of the Onyx T68 listed below is which version where the firmware update worked regarding the touchscreen?

1) Lynx (Artatech)
2) Onyx International version

Thanks.

I just got my T68 Lynx yesterday also. I find that accuracy on the touchscreen is worse with a JotPro stylus, but still not too bad with a fingertip.
That said, after much experimentation, I have determined that tapping anywhere within a centimeter of any side means having to be very slow and offset the tap by a little bit.
All in all, now that I have its quirks figured out, I like it a lot.

My Kernel version is also 3.0.35, but the date on mine is Aug 5 2014.
My build number is 2014-08-05_17-59_1.6.0_bf1cfff - what is your build#?

Have you tried to contact Arta support about an update?

Well, from what I've read here, the Lynx (Artatech) version is the one where the update improved the touchscreen. This is the one that I just received from Amazon yesterday, and I'm updating now - Hopefully it really does fix the touchscreen, because it is almost unusable the way it is now.

I am waiting for a replacement device (had a half-white-half-yellow screen), so cannot test the newest firmware from Booxtor. I hope it would work out well.

I am a Chinese based in the UK, I am in fact biased and personally hope Onyx can be successful - but I have to acknowledge that Onyx, perhaps most of the big electronic companies, need to improve the quality control if they wish to march on with great success.

At first glance, it seems much much better--before this, I was seriously thinking of returning it, because the frustration was too great. Still testing it out, but so far I really like it. The screen isn't quite as good as either the AuraHD or the PW2, but the size of the screen and configurability of the fonts make up for it w/regards to PW2 comparison, and ability to wirelessly access my library using Calibre Companion, along with the capacitive screen make up for it w/regards to the AuraHD. Also the fact that I can use the side buttons in Moon Reader makes me very happy--I hadn't realized just how much I missed those buttons!

Sorry for asking again, but could you please restate it?

Does "all but eliminated" mean the problems were almost eliminated? Or does it mean that they were the opposite of eliminated?

I guess the first one (I'm not a native speaker, not sure about that expression).

I guess this also implies that you have the Lynx version.

My impression is that the touchscreen accuracy is a hardware defect. It is possible that it can be partially mitigated in software (by firmware upgrades), but it will never go away.
Being a hardware defect, it means that some people are lucky enough not to have it, but from what I read in the forum, most do.

My device has very poor screen accuracy with either of the firmware versions (Artatech or Booxtor). I have also tried all upgrades.
Also, I think the screen accuracy depends on the status of the device (for instance I think when wifi is on, it's worse). In my mind this goes to the bad quality of the battery: like when a lot of parts of the device start drawing power at the same time then the touch screen accuracy suffers.

I had very poor touchscreen accuracy on my Lynx when it first came out, but the accuracy dramatically improved with a firmware update. That strongly suggests that it's a firmware issue, rather than hardware.
