Gabriella like some of the others here I read it in French at senior High School, and later in English. And I loved it.
![]() Saint-Exupery's philosophy is timeless and ageless and extraordinarily elegant. Another book comes to mind that I read in French at about the same age - L'Etranger by Albert Camus. This book is known in English as The Outsider, or The Stranger and it's also short, 125 pp or so. (Camus won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1957.) Camus is in the public domain in 50 year countries so I thought there may be a copy in the MR library, but not yet. By the way, do you draw your own avatars? You've had some wonderful and unique avatars. ![]() Last edited by Lynx-lynx; 08-29-2014 at 08:13 PM. |

I also like the book, it's for all ages.
I found an old recording of the novel as well years ago as cassette, but told by the famous french actor Gérard Philipe. Unfortunately, he did not do the whole novel. I lost the cassette in a move. Last edited by Nothingness; 08-29-2014 at 09:43 PM. |

I do, however, prefer the original Katherine Woods translation to the more recent one done by Richard Howard. His may be technically more "exact" -- but much of the beautiful poetry of Woods translation has been lost, imo. |

I still have my copy from high school, in French with my translation in between the lines.
