I like SciFi a lot. My favorites are horror and mystery.
If you like SciFi just visit www.baen.com and check their free library. Beside BBeB you can also use rtf files. That is what I personally use.

You should also visit our wiki (link is on the top of this page) and check other sources of free and paid e-books.

Hey, great web site.

We are big Harry Turtledove fans in our house. I personally like Robert Heinlein and Frederik Pohl.

I grew up on Edgar Rice Burroughs (not Tarzan stories).

Thanks again for the link!

Here's the wiki link for the software. It's a library application, but will also download news and convert books from other formats to the Sony format.

Altoona isn't too far from us. Pittsburgh is about 40 minutes away.

Lucky you, Atlanta is so much nicer than Pittsburgh, lol. Our weather is the worst, lol.

Hello, Gyps.

Some simple tricks.

1.-Manage your books with Calibre. It will let you convert almost anything (html, rtf, txt, pdf...) into LRF, which is the Readers file type (BBeB). LRF is more compact than RTF and allows you to customize font type, cover, margins, header...

2.-Use the Sony Ebook library software to transfer them to the Reader. When you transfer them with Calibre, the Reader has to process the book the 1st time you open it and it can take up to 10 minutes (depending on the book size, more or less than that). Sony's library will process the book on the PC before transferring, which is so much faster. This is the only reason to use the library (my opinion), apart from buying from connect (which I wouldn't even if I could).

3.-Spend some time defining the font type, size and margins you like better. Do this with the readers "s" font size (default) and you will not have to fumble with that, ever. Many people like Times New Roman, I use Futura (size 11 in rtf, base size 12 in Calibre) all the time. But that is my personal choice. You need to find yours. What I did was make a test rtf with the same paragraph in different sizes, convert it to lrf and define the one I wanted. Pick your font type in your PC because you will possibly need to embed it when you convert it to lrf with Calibre (peace of cake).

4.- You should know that using an SD card full of books depletes the battery faster than an empty one or none. If you have a need to take 2 Gb of books with you (I don't) take the SD card with you, but not inside the Reader.

5.- You might be interested in getting a second brand PSP charger from ebay or similar, that will let you a.- charge your reader away from your PC. b.- Charge it in 1,5 hours instead of 4. c.-Read while you charge. It costs about $12, shipping included. Check the forum's utilities section.
This is mine. I got it in Spain, but this very same one is all over the place on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=380030836186

6.-Depending on where and when you read, you might need a light. This is mine. A little more blueish than I would like, but otherwise, perfect.
http://cgi.ebay.es/Mighty-Bright-Xtr...742.m153.l1262

7.-You should check Wolf's Hack. It will provide your Reader with a clock, unified fonts and simple shut off. It has been tested. I love it. Thanks again Wolf.
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23143

8.-Know that Calibre is the outcome of Covid's continuous effort and skills. He sure deserves a first row seat in the e-reader's Olympus.

9.- There is no single way to do anything here. If you find a better, or just different way to accomplish whatever, post it!!

Mmmmmmm... that's about it for the moment.

Damn!! I almost forgot!!

10.- Try Beowulf's "Bookit" plugin. It will convert any web page (and the link levels you choose) into an RLF and add it to your Calibre library. This plugin is so fresh that it still wriggles.

Gypsy Woman,

Yes, there is a lotof good stuff here. My recommendation is to explore this site for a while. (69 posts in less than 2 days! ) Pretty much everything you ask about has been covered in more detail, so you will get more info by browsing existing info than by posting dozens of small questions. The top of the page has the major sub-forums well-labeled, including ones for content (direct book downloads as well as linksto other sources that you asked about), software/format conversions, accessories, troubleshooting, etc. And there's a wiki as well for the basic information you want.

BTW, Sony's ebook store has lots of Turtledove books, many in bundles.

If there is problem posting 69 posts in 2 days, please let me know. I was trying to get a feel for using a forum.

Apparenting there is something I am not aware of of. I will discontinue posting.

I did feel welcome from others now I feel unwanted. Way to go!

thanks!

oh good heavens, whatever you do don't *post* anything, people might actually think this was a *forum*

i'm sure Dr. Moze didn't intend to make you feel unwelcome at all, however since you are new you might want to look around and see what others have already posted ; there is a good chance that a lot of your questions have already been answered. you can also use the search function to help you find information. since you say you are new to forums, you might not realize that.
