Well sure, if you can find a device with beaucoup internal storage and are willing to pay the premium, that's a great philosophy. I generally only fly First Class for the same reason. The trick is doing it for less than $180.
It is certainly possible to make do on a smaller device so long as you have reasonable expectations. I've got a 2 year old Hisense Sero Pro 7 with 8 GB internal storage, running a version of KitKat with no Move to SD capability. I've got 2-3 large games, a couple dozen general purpose apps and a small stash of a few hundred ebooks on it, and it's fine. I did have to put a little thought into organizing media on the card, but it works just fine. (I've been told it's possible to fly Coach with a similar philosophy.) The NGTS with Samsung's secondary storage feature and enhanced firmware that does allow Move to SD would be a great tablet for reading... If B&N supported this key differentiating feature. They crippled what potential the poor thing had, while supporting uSD storage for video. Weird design decisions. |

I am thinking of getting a Nook Galaxy but the storage could be a problem. On my Nook ST I somewhat solve the problem by reserving the internal storage for Nook content and side loading the SD card with content from other providers such as Kobo or Google Play.
I wonder if I could do the same with the Nook Galaxy? |

Yes and no regarding sideloading content to uSD. You can certainly put ebooks and other media on a card, but the problem is that the B&N reading apps will not work with any ebooks or magazines on the card. The notable exception is if you move an epub (I only tested magazines) to the card using some other means (e.g. the Samsung My Files app). THEN the B&N reader seems to be able to open it, but it's not a realistic solution. Other reading apps seem to want content on internal storage as well, so it'll depend on your exact mix.
So... if you want to be able to keep a large collection of ebooks on the device and find yourself needing to store them on uSD, you'll probably end up using a 3rd party reader -- possibly one that can work directly with B&N DRM-encumbered ebooks such as Mantano Reader. At that point, you're not using the B&N software, so really haven't gained anything buy buying the device from B&N UNLESS you either need/want in-store support, or want to use features such as Read In Store. Buying a non-B&N SGT4 7.0 from BestBuy at least qualifies you for the somewhat better Samsung Perks bundle, which includes a $10 GoPS credit, which is likely more useful than B&N's bundle. |

I get a few magazines every month from my local public library that are from Zinio, and of course only work with the Zinio app. The magazines are downloaded to the Zinio folder and there's no option to move them to the SD card. I can see how the Galaxy Nook would get filled up fast.

I bought a new Samsung galaxy pro 8.4 for $250 at Best Buy. I sold my old Nexus 7.1 for $80. The new Samsung only cost me $185 with tax.
