Are your annotations for ebooks on the internal storage or an external uSD card?

I thought of a couple of reasons but they would probably require Kobo's developers to be working in I love me jackets.

There is a difference in light level when as you step through the brightness levels so it seems to be only the display code that misbehaves.

One day when boredom has set in, I'll have to try stepping from 1 to 100 to see if any other points have a similar issue.

They're in the internal storage, I see in davidfor's post that that could be the problem.

Is it possible that internally, the firmware is converting the 1-100% into 1-255 for controlling the LED, and then converting that back to 1-100% for display. And, for some reason, the convert up and convert down functions aren't quite in sync?
