It's not possible to switch between LCD and e-ink. Those are two different types of screens.

I think Sydney's Mom means switching back and forth between two different devices. For example using an eink Kindle for outside, and using an LCD tablet when inside or at night.

I really wish Samsung would use the standard button layout. I get so sick of the back button being on the wrong side on my S4.

I was hoping that there would be 16GB on board storage since Samsung uses so much with their OS. There will probably be only 4-5GB available for the end user.

Instead, it will have a set of Nook apps. And reserve the storage for Nook content. |

So I wonder if it will run TouchWiz or some B&N customized front-end.

So far, it's a standard SGT4 selling at the same price. Is B&N going to add some free content specific to this Nook branded SGT4 to entice buyers?
Also, will it allow the Kindle for Samsung app and the free ebook you get once a month? |

Mm. It doesn't really seem to be much of a bargain compared to similar tablets, and I recall there are other 7" tablets out there not mentioned by the post, like the Asus and Lenovo ones, which are also comparable and have SD cards. Also, a lot of companies haven't released the 2014 editions of their tablets yet.
I was more interested in the 10" tablet, but now it seems likely that it'll just be the same price as the normal tab, so I might just wait for Galaxy Tab 5 and see what the specs are like then. |

No, I actually was stupid enough to say both in one device. I was trying to think of something that would justify the Nook's continued existence.

I don't think the idea is stupid. Technically not even impossible, but too limiting. It should be possible to sandwich an eink screen, a frontlight for the eink, and then an lcd layer on top. When using the eink, the lcd needs to be triggered to stay transparent and when using the lcd the eink needs to switch to all white so that the frontlight of it serves as the backlight of the lcd layer. Extreme lightloss through the lcd layer and the 2 needed pol filters might be too prohibitive for the eink.

I'm wondering which version of Android would this device run.
If it runs the Nook customized Android, so it means Samsung just OEM a tablet for Nook. If it doesn't run Nook customized Android, then how Nook deliver its brand on this device? |
