I don't have a stand, but I prop my Kindle everywhere, even on a certain angle on my cellphone, in the oat pot when I'm having breakfast, cushions etc. This is due to the small form factor and great angle of view, but I don't know if I could do this with an iPad or another big device.

My cat tries to climb between my face and my iPad to get my attention. She'd never tolerate that! Instead I have a small, portable stand by FlipStand that works great for my Kindle and iPad Mini. I also have a Thought Out stand for my full-size iPad that I was given as a gift and love it! Great for using on a table, small desk or counter-top. In fact I'm typing this post on my iPad while using this stand and sitting at my kitchen table.

I have a small stand I use on occasion while knitting, so I did take your survey and as I use a stand mostly to free up my hands, those were my answers. I have no idea if I completed the survey, because I closed the window as soon as the advertisement appeared. I *hate* ads. I did not immediately see a way to "click through" to see if there were more survey questions so mine may be incomplete. (Did I mention I *HATE* ads?)

I can see no way to click through or avoid that ad. The survey is so shallow and poorly designed that I suspect the whole thing is some sort of exercise in advertising/email harvesting. This site has a review that says the survey site's support numbers are fictitious. Proceed with caution.

My eyesight is poor, so I hold the e-reader close to my face. A stand would be exceedingly useless for me.
I can hold the tablet like that for hours. For the e-reader, I put the lower right corner in the palm of my hand to brace it, and put my right thumb on the bezel to flip pages. I hold it like that for hours if I can put my elbow on some sort of support, be it a table, a chair, or sometimes, my knee. Even my tablet (10,1 inch, 600 grams) is no problem. I put it into the web of my hand, between my left index finger and thumb, and make a V with my index finger and middle finger. |

I have used a Bookgem for a couple of years. It's tiny and holds the my Aura HD firmly. I mainly use it while sitting at a table, though it can be used for reading in bed. If you want to buy it, don't buy from the page on Amazon which, for some reason, features a reseller who sells the product for $8.00 more than the company itself and with double the shipping charge. Either go to the additional seller page which includes the company or go to Bookgem itself. Here's a link:

This is how I usually read too, but I wish I could find an ereader stand that would sit on the rounded, upholstered arm of my sofa when I want to eat while reading (I rarely eat sitting at a table).

I do at least 90% of my reading on my ereader, which is easily hand-held. The rest of the time I read on a (more or less generic) 7 inch tablet or a (more or less generic) 10 inch tablet. The larger tablet occasionally rests on my lap. I suppose if I ever need a stand I'll cobble one together.

I thought I was exceedingly clever when I bought a wooden plate easel at a thrift shop for 25 or 50 cents to be my home e-reader holder. Alas, I listen to books almost exclusively now so I haven't used the easel at all.

Thank you to the 55 people who have completed the survey, so far! I'd like a bigger sample size of the e-reader community to be represented in my research. Your participation in my survey is essential for me to start work on my project. So please, folks, take a minute of your time and take this short survey. Your help could help produce something that will positively affect the whole e-reader community.
Here's a link to the survey again: http://kwiksurveys.com/s.asp?sid=pczbshocqo32tyy374679 |

i mainly use two stands.
1. belkin flip blade - this is the best stand i have ever used. it's construction is small enough for cell phone usage. but it's heavy and sturdy enough for ipads and similarly sized tablets. the only thing that is missing from this stand is the fact that it sits only at one fixed angle. otherwise, this would be the best stand, IMHO. 2. rolodex mesh stand - this one i purchased because of the multiple viewing angles. it's functional, but there's not much in the looks department. |
