Firmware Update Kindle PW2 now at 5.4.5 Kindle Touch now 5.3.7.2 - Page 2

Is it my imagination or is 5.4.5 on the KPW2 really a lot faster. I normally don't notice or care about slight speed bumps but it seems much faster to me.

I never had to clear the last page read in the past.

If you are reading on your Paperwhite, then footnotes appear as pop-ups on the screen and will not affect last-page read.

Well, that's good at least. I see CM has been updated

so assuming I have the time I may update from 5.3.7 just for the theoretical bugfixes.

(It's been a long while since I actually checked to verify that fact, but, IIRC, that's still specified in the PW2 user guide).

I've never had problems booting with power supply on PW2.
In fact, the functionality of CRPA relies on being able to boot with power supply and it works.

@dsmid: Booting, sure, but hard-rebooting (used to? last time I tried must have been on a K3, if not a K2, but I'm fairly sure the KUG still mentions that fact in the poweroff/hard-reboot paragraph) requires being unplugged from any and all power sources.

EDIT: Well, seems to work a Touch in USBNet, so yay?

Yep, my PW2 has just hard-rebooted fine while connected to power supply.
The requirement doesn't apply any more.

It currently syncs to furthest page read. Say you are on page 100 and you flip ahead to page 300 to look at something. Then you go back to reading and stop at page 200. Pick up another device and it will want to sync to page 300. So I would set bookmarks to keep my place or manually reset furthest page in the Manage Your Kindle page.

The firmware change now syncs to most recent page. So pick up another device and it will sync to page 200 instead of 300.

However the notes say that you will still be able to sync to furthest manually which probably means it will be a menu option.

Is this just referring to the need for update_downgrade.bin? Or is there something new? Also, I hope they haven't backported that wonderful change to the KT firmware?

I am slightly confused. So you are saying to DOWN-grade with the "update file" (which is the old firmware 5.4.3.2), then after i copied the old FW to the device wait a few minutes and then manually reboot?

@flexy123: Yes. Although I'd *strongly* suggest forgetting about the 'waiting for a few minutes' part, and just doing it the right way (meaning making sure the file is really and safely written to disk, and not hanging around in an FS/OS buffer).

That's faily easy on Linux: umount without ejecting. On Windows, that's a whole other kettle of fish. dsmid linked to a tool which may help, but I'm not sure anyone has done this safely on any other OS than Linux.

There is a bug in the new firmware for the PW 2013. Be sure to always use bookmarks now and do NOT rely on syncing.

I read on the PW 2013 and the Fire HDX 7 2013 and notice the PW 2013 automatically syncs BACKWARDS to a prior page read in the past on the HDX 7 2013 when first opening it. Just click "cancel" when that happens. Hopefully, the next PW 2013 firmware upgrade will fix this problem.
