My wild guess: KPW3 coming soon

I want my next ereader to have a non-glass screen. So I'm looking for Mobius eInk or similar.

Although if it was a full-colour LiquaVista display I might be tempted by another glass screen.

Unfortunately, you are probably right. Rumors abound that the new device is just an enhanced version of the current KPW2, with no change other than the 4G storage. And kindle of the next generation may not be called a "paperwhite" anyway.

No.

The current so-called "colour" eInk screen (Triton) is simply a colour mask placed over a normal B&W eInk screen. The colour are pale and unsaturated, and the colour mask reduces the linear resolution by a factor of two. Avoid.

No, but full-colour low-power reflective screens using a different technology do exist (in the lab). Amazon bought LiquaVista a year or so ago. It's anyone's guess as to when or whether a LiquaVista screen will appear in a Kindle.

I don't care for colour, I just want a higher-res screen paperwhite and I'm upgrading. Hopefully the announcement comes soon, hot on the heels of this "Kindle unlimited" thing they announced.

Amazon wants to hit a certain price point for their kpw. They're not a hardware company, they sell content. An aura hd type screen would put them over it.

I can see them selling the same kpw2 again with 4gb and introducing a bigger higher res deluxe kpw at premium price.

New version should also include speakers as the new KU does both ebooks and Audiobooks. Just an upgrade to 4GB isn't enough of a change for most people to upgrade.

I very much doubt it. That's what tablets are for.

Precisely why I kept my Touch. Last version with speakers and 4gb memory. Prefer eInk for bookx/reading only.

It is precisely for this reason that I am going to give up purchasing eink devices. My audible collection has grown significantly and I want all my new devices to be able to do both ebook and audiobooks. So I am going to stick with my pw2 and/or k4 until they both die. Though I do plan to upgrade my tablet this year, whether it is a Fire or not depends on what Amazon adds to the 2014 version, otherwise it will be a Nexus 7.
