That's because Ripplinger has big-ass bad eyes! So my crappy eyesight likes the thicker fonts, and before I had a lighted reader, the thicker fonts also let me keep reading much longer past when it starts getting darker outside.

When I did those scans, it was around 85° in here, and still very minimal ghosting. When I read outside in direct sunlight, the ghosting is more noticeable (plus those stripes that form on the page unless you refresh often).

My HD absolutely has the same noticeable ghosting problems. I set it to refresh every page so I always get a clean, nice page. The refresh-blink doesn't even register with me, I think maybe I've started unconsciously blinking myself in sync with the page turns.

I never understood what the big deal is with full refreshes and why manufacturers keep making noise about eliminating them. I don't see how it's any more distracting than turning the page of a physical book. Some people theorize that a partial refresh uses less energy, but my Kobo Touch would last for weeks with a refresh every page, so it doesn't seem to use that much more energy than a partial refresh.

Anyway, the Kobo Aura (not HD) seems to be able to maintain crisp text without doing the fullscreen "blink" every page. It's more of a dissolve, which I suppose some people find more pleasing.

I agree with you guys that's not a big deal setting the refresh after even 1 page, and that's better a refresh than a faint text.
And reading all your posts it seems that's the way the aura hd eink display should work, but there's something I don't understand.
I get it that the text gets faint after few pages, but just out of curiosity why it doesn't happen if it's the 1st page of a chapter? Even after 20 pages without refreshing, the 1st page of a chapter is like the 1st one after the refresh.

I believe the screen does a full refresh at a chapter change no matter what the refresh settings are.
