I agree, though I will say the one feature that is a must have is Google Play, I am just tired of not being able to directly use it on the Fire. Also the lack of Cloud Collections. Amazon would have to add something amazing to the new device in order for me to give up the Google Play again.

Well, it would be interesting if they put a Liquivista screen on something.

My predictions:
Kindle Fire HD will be no more. HDX 8.9" will be gone too, or they're going to keep either the 32GB or 64GB model and discontinue the 16GB. |

I hope they come up with a reasonably priced 32gb. That was the main reason I didn't upgrade my 2012, I didn't want the HDX but I did not want to downgrade from a 32 to a 16. The features of the HDX were not something that I used so it wasn't worth the cost.

Yes, something with HDX specs, 32GB, no Mayday for $150 would be of interest. But I really don't see Fire carving out much more market share than it already has, and it could well be in decline.
I assume folks have seen the recent reports that Amazon Instant Video is 'imminent' for Google Play. If they were hoping withholding it from the greater Android platform was going to support Fire sales, by now they must realize they would be better off being able to sell video to the other 50% of the mobile market (and one without the in app purchase restrictions of iOS). True, the tablet market seems a bit saturated, and rumors are not flying about the forthcoming iPad or Nexus tablets, either. But I'm a lot more interested in those devices than a Fire. |

I'm still happy with my first generation iPad Mini. I probably won't upgrade for another three years, and will most likely start saving current apps after iOS 9 is announced if it doesn't support it.
I don't think the market is saturated is a good excuse. I just think Amazon isn't learning from the experience. That developers have no desire to be a part of the Appstore, that nobody wants to save 10% on IAP, that most of it is gained through free specials they have, and that most people don't like the OS that is shipped with their devices. It says a lot that even the majority of retail stores don't even sell them anymore. Did you see the new Fire Phone ad? It's pretty laughable, and sad, because they're trying to sell a grownup's device via children (I'm not surprised though, I saw a three part documentary on tactics companies use to make us splurge on stuff). |
