Thanks for posting this. It was easy getting the book onto my Samsung phone using their app. But I'm certainly not going to read it on a phone when I have all these excellent ereaders. Getting it on my Kindle Fire is too difficult when I dislike reading on a tablet, anyway.
I'm not ungrateful to HarperCollins for the free book offer. It is certainly in their best interest to capture the attention of avid readers. It would also be in their best interest to take a lesson from Amazon and make even free offers easy to access and convenient to read. Being able to download it to ADE would allow me to read it on my Nook or Sony T1. Until I can do that, the HarperCollins website is probably useless to me. This is probably the wrong place for it, but what is in the email?
I'm not interested in any of the free books but the bottom of the page says, "Receive daily alerts about discounted e-books at the following U.S. Retailers". (Amazon, B&N, Apple, Google, Kobo, Indiebound) Are the deals in the email for purchases from those stores? Because the free books require their dedicated app, I am wondering if their daily alerts are limited that way too. I'll sign up if it shows me deals at B&N or Kobo, but not if it's for their own site/app. |

I guess people haven't seen Smenk's post on how to download your free ebook to your PC. It took me 30 seconds to put it on my Sony 650.

I saw it, but got lost with the user agent switcher/overrider on the desktop. I tried, though, and could probably parse it out eventually (hate to admit to being so ignorant), but I'd rather read.

It's a small add-on to Firefox or Chrome. Select in the pulldown menu Android or iOS and then click the link in the email.

The only two eBooks I can speak about are the James Rollins and Charles Todd eBooks. They are both good authors. The other two no idea if they are good or not.
I was able to get the ePub into ADE for Windows no problem once I was able to grab (and modify) the ACSM code. I then plunked what I had ito firefox and I got a proper ACSM which then allowed me to download the ePub. Very smooth. But still, not nice on the part of HarperCollins to make people think it's iOS or Android only. |

TO DOWNLOAD BOOKPERK FREEBIES TO ONE'S DESKTOP: (1) Copy the redemption code from the email (2) Right click the link in the email, to open the Bookperk page (3) On the BookPerk page, under the message "Mobile device only: Enter your code", paste in the redemption code, and click "Redeem" (4) Fill out the form to create a new HarperCollins.com account or login to existing account. [Be sure to use the email address you used to subscribe to Bookperks.] (5) Choose your book (6) From here, there are two different things you can do. You can do either or both. (A) DOWNLOAD TO YOUR DESKTOP: A1-Click download (the blue button below the book cover) A2- You may get an error message like the following: "The address wasn't understood Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because one of the following protocols (harper) isn't associated with any program or is not allowed in this context. You might need to install other software to open this address." A3-Don't worry. Merely remove harper://fulfill/ from the beginning of the book URL A4- Refresh the page to visit the url you shortened in the previous step A5-A URLLink.acsm dialogue box will pop up A5- On the dialogue box, choose to open with ADE "version of your choice" or choose "Save File" A6- Open the acsm file in ADE (B) DOWNLOAD TO THE HARPERCOLLINS READER APP B1-Select a mobile device profile from the top of the page, where it reads: This e-book is designed to be read with the HarperCollins Reader, which is available for both iOS, Android and Kindle Fire. Download the HarperCollins Reader: "Available on the iPhones App Store" "Android App on Google Play" "Install Bluefire App on KindleFire" B2-follow the instructions from there Last edited by Froide; 07-09-2014 at 06:39 PM. |

Dear Froide,
Thank you! That was so easy and now Very Valentine is on my Nook. I had to open a second account with a different email address to get a second shot at downloading this book to ADE. I adore all the clever people who frequent MR and have taught me so much. ![]() |

Interesting, I kept getting "Please download your book on your mobile device" message before, without a user agent switcher. I wonder if they changed it due to complaints.

Yeah, it's definitely working differently now. It's much easier to deal with now.

Yes, it's "Bluefire," not "Bluefire." Ack!! Thankfully, I haven't had to become familiar with the format. Bluefield is a town in one of the flatter areas of West Virginia. I don't want ya'll to think I'm ignernt.(ha)
