Amazon currently has The Martian by Andy Weir for $5.99. I paid $10 for it a couple weeks ago But still an awesome book well worth it.

Peter Watts makes Blindsight (as well as the three Rifters novels) freely downloadable from his website. Read or download Blindsight at http://www.rifters.com/real/Blindsight.htm. And for the Rifters finale (Behemoth) he doesn't split it into two books like his publisher at the time made him do (for probably legitimate publishing concerns).

But then donate to him or buy the book somewhere so he gets some money for his work

Blindsight is one of the best SF books I've read in the past few years -- so good I've even read it twice already and given away my print copy to a friend. Can't wait til the sequel Ecohpraxia comes out this fall.

I too would rather have had it from Amazon, but the price was too delicious to pass up. I bought it on Nook.

I wonder, if I Google it, if there's a way to use the book in my reading app of choice since I don't otherwise keep the Nook app on my devices...

Any app that works with Adobe DRM should work (BlueFire, Mantano, Aldiko, etc.) with the B&N version of Adobe DRM. It will ask for your name & cc number to unlock the book (assuming you're not removing the DRM, then it should work with any ePub reading app).

One of the current StoryBundles got my attention and my pocketbook's. Jeff VanderMeer's Weird Fiction Bundle is running for 20 more days and includes these titles:

The Kosher Guide to Imaginary Animals by Ann & Jeff VanderMeer
The Traitor by Michael Cisco
Tainaron by Leena Krohn
The Honey Month by Amal El-Mohtar
It Came From the North by Desirina Boskovich

Pay more than $12 and you also get
Jagannath by Karin Tidbeck
The Tyrant by Michael Cisco
The Third Bear by Jeff VanderMeer

The anthology It Came from the North (Finnish speculative fiction) and Tidbeck's collection Jagannath were on my oughta-take-a-look list, and some of the others look both interesting and not something I've seen from a dozen previous bargains.

Don't quote me 'cause I ain't an expert, but "Weird Fiction" is, loosely, fantastic fiction shading into other genres and determinedly uninterested in traditional fantasy tropes.

DRM-free in ePub and Mobi formats. There are three other bundles running right now, the Cosmic SF bundle mentioned in last month's thread, a Fantasy Music bundle that includes - surprise! - music as well as books, and an International Crime bundle.

Quote:
Jagannath - Karin Tidbeck
"For you, dear reader, something wonderful — and weird — is going to happen if you open this book. It's waiting for you." – NPR's All Things Considered

The Kosher Guide to Imaginary Animals - Ann & Jeff VanderMeer
"Funny and thoughtful and totally absurd ... This book is the most fun I've had in a while." – San Francisco Book Review

The Third Bear - Jeff VanderMeer
"A fine introduction to one of our very best contemporary practitioners of the fantastic." – Publisher's Weekly

The Honey Month - Amal El-Mohtar
"A delightful debut collection whose poems and short stories are more than just an aesthetic pleasure; they are a rich sensual indulgence." – Andy Humphrey

The Tyrant - Michael Cisco
"Michael Cisco's works immerse the reader in worlds that are not simply dreamlike in the quality of their imagination but somehow manage to capture and convey the power of the dream itself. The Tyrant is his masterpiece." – Thomas Ligotti

The Traitor - Michael Cisco
"The Traitor stands out... due to its vivid imagery and the masterful way that Cisco uses the deranged first-person narrative to create a world that is full of shadows (light as well as darkness), hinting at a profoundness that goes deeper than the narrator's own twisted pathway to a personal hell of his own making." – OF Blog

Tainaron - Leena Krohn
"The novel contains scenes of startling beauty and strangeness that change how the reader sees the world. Krohn effortlessly melds the literal with the metaphorical, so that the narrator's exploration of the city through its inhabitants encompasses both the speculation of science fiction and the resonant symbolism of the surreal." – Locus

It Came From the North - Desirina Boskovich
"Imaginative, eclectic, well-written unexpected twists. A little dark at times but a pleasure to be outside the mainstream." – Amazon Review

Oh, great. I have BlueFire installed.

Removing DRM, hmmm?

Echopraxia comes out in August. I've got an ARC through NetGalley and I'll be reading it after I finish Annihilation, by Jeff VanderMeer, and The Rhesus Chart, by Charles Stross.

Not so. Not all flavors of Adept compatible programs/apps are compatible with B&N's flavor of DRM. My Sony Reader is not compatible, but it is Adept compatible. You cannot assue something is B&N compatible if it's Adept compatible unless you read in the description that it is or have tried it out.

Is your Sony reader an app? No it's not. I didn't assume anything at all. The reading apps out there that use the RMSDK work with both Adobe ID based and B&N/Adobe password based DRM.

Are you using the Kindle for Samsung app? (it's a separate app)
