Sorry, I forgot to say that Yes, you will have to download and install a program to read an ebook.

It's not hard to do. You can get eReader, mobpocket and microsoft reader free.

Download the program file to your computer, connect your ppc and install the program.

I'm sure there's a lot of help around here if you need it.

It'll be worth the effort. I'm sure you'll need other programs too. I have a calendar program, games and Pocket Stars.

Certainly it supports eBooks, and there are numerous applications you could load - MobiPocket, uBook, eReader, etc etc.

I found that after a while, I didn't notice anything strange about the touchpad. It was a case of familiarity. I do forget sometimes and put the device face down on my big fat stomach while I do something else and pick up the iPAQ to find I have turned 25 pages just by having it rest against me. OOPS! While I didn't get the Cybook I mentioned in an earlier post in this thread, I got a Sony PRS-505 and love it. When I need a handheld computer, I have my 4700. When I just want to read, I have the 505. Best of both worlds.

Hey ColdSun,
Let us know how the hx4700 is working out as an ereader. I considered purchasing one from ebay but the 4" screen seemed a bit small. I'm curious to find out if you are enjoying your new ebook reader........

I'm not ColdSun but my device is a HX4700 too since 2 years now. And it works fine for ebooks with adjustable font-size like Mobi. I have the Foxit reader installed too. With reflow-pdfs it's ok, but not for normal pdfs.

The standard battery must be loaded once a weak with reading 1 to 1,5 hours every evening (with backlight, but not at highest level) and normal using of the calender and the adress book. Using the media player for mp3s reduces the battery life time highly.

You may get a battery with higher capacity via ebay, but then the reader doesn't fit into the leather case anymore. But it doubles the running time.
