Hmm try finding the settings file its an .ini file with a name that includes the string calibre or libprs500. Once you find it delete it and then re-run calibre.

I found the problem. It was in the calibre.ini file. I didn't realize it, but the last time I used the app was on a network library so the file had references to my network path, but I am traveling and didn't think to jump on my home vpn.

I think some code should be added so that if the path to the db cannot be resolved the app should prompt you for the location of the database file, or perhaps to create a new one.

Here were the two offending lines. They initially had references to my home network.

database%20location%20dialog=C:/Documents and Settings/Admin
database%20path=C:\\Documents and Settings\\Admin\\library1.db

Thanks for your help on this one. It sure took me for a loop.

Yeah I should add some code to handle the case when the directory in which the db file is supposed to be no longer exists.
