i have it
![]() i wanted it white, but i'm not sure if i would like a white paperwhite more... ideally i wouldn't want to notice the black case, i think the white case fits in better with the eink screen. |

I think black, by contrast, makes the screen appear brighter.

You can check whether or not it's blacklisted. Ask the seller for the serial number, and Amazon will then tell you if that serial number is blacklisted.

I have a paperwhite but set it to refresh every page. I prefer consistency over being jarred every few pages.

I'm not using a T1 with the modified reader app where I can set how many page turns before the flash. One thing it does besides flashing every page turn is extend the life of the battery between charges as the flash with the page turn takes twice as much power as just the page turn.

My brother and have bought a total of about 12 used Kindles on eBay and Craigslist -- so far only one was blacklisted. A Kindle 3 I bought form a pawnshop for $5. I got hold of Amazon, thinking they might want to restore the Kindle to its owner, but their only suggestion was that I take it back to the pawnshop for a refund. It doesn't hurt to ask when buying. When I sell Kindles on eBay I specifically state that they can be registered. A lot of other people (probably the majority) who sell Kindles on eBay make this clear also. You can also find Kindles on eBay that are specifically described as blacklisted, which to me are about useless.

Depends how you access your content. I manage my ebook library in Calibre, sideload all my content, and don't use collections, so personally I wouldn't be bothered in the slightest by a blacklisted device (other than the moral principle of buying a device which may well have been stolen, of course).

I wouldn't pay real money for a blacklisted Kindle, but I'd happily buy one for a few pounds from a pawn shop or a car boot sale, provided I knew that it had a "reputable" origin. |

There is also a KUAL button to set the time from public time servers, bypassing Amazon.
It was meant to go with the BBB (Block Big Brother) filter that adds firewalls to block Amazon completely (for the tinfoil hat crowd ![]() |
