It is oddly only a Nook TOUCH bug.... doesn't effect any of the others (Nook, Nook Color, etc. etc.). A very odd bug, but easily avoidable.

Thanks all for the discussion! I've been off this weekend, but nevertheless continued poking around, and the strange thing is that, once having set the margin-top (by px or em or whatever), it was impossible to evoke a change in the book by trying to set the css code lower. I tried it with another book, and it was the same experience, and even setting simply "margin: 1 0" didn't work.

In fact, on the device the paragraphs appear with a space that's too large. I can live with it, but the effect is strange.
