There is no comparison between stock Kindle Fire OS and Android KitKat. They are completely different operating systems. Kitkat is 100% better. But I am biased because I hate the Fire interface. My son (13) didn't hate it, he didn't care about it at all, but when I put kitkat on his Fire, he was very pleased, and he would not go back. It turns the locked down plodding Fire into a true android tablet. The way I did it, it is basically the n2a skin, but that is fine.

Yes it can be done without n2a, but that may be difficult for the average person. So I do recommend the n2aOS method for the average person. (Believe me, I have spent hours trying to put kitkat on my Nook HD+ and no success. But I was able to easily put n2a KitKat on my Nook HD).

So anyway, I used to really dislike my 2012 Fire HD, but now I love it. It is as good as my 2013 Nexus 7.

Here is the website.

Unfortunately, mine was one of the first and did not have the card slot. All I ever used it for was reading books. Fact is, I rarely use my Fire for much except reading. I am old-fashioned, and use a real computer for everything else.

Klondike I understand that. But I Read a LOT! Find the Batteries last longer in the K3 [15 hours] Than the Fire [8-9 hours] which always dies just at a good point in the book LOL Also When I fall asleep reading on the Fire I always have to play hunt for the last thing I remember reading! Touch screens drive me crazy!!

BL I not techy as you well know so guess I pass. LOL Trying for $75 but advertising it for $100 obo.. Trade in on Amazon is only $44

I know this is a bit of an old thread now, but keep in mind, if she never used it, that the battery may be a bit stale and need to be recharged more often. That's how today's batteries work - use it or lose parts of it. Happened with both a Kindle and a 4th gen nano.
