True. The main reason I was thinking about space was the difficulty of sending new physical books up their in terms of weight, space and cost.

The advantage of e-ink would be that once you had the devices up there, if they wanted something new to read, it could be just transmitted up to them.

However you are right that the same logic would apply to people who can't easily get access to new physical books, or are restricted in weight or space.
Pilots, seamen, researchers in remote places could all benefit.

Hmm, does any one know how well the readers work in low temperatures.

Think the People in the Antarctica research base might appreciate the equally.

The e-ink gets too sluggish to function at temperatures well above anything that the Antarctic sees.

Bummer. But Does that include the temperature inside the base?

It is heated inside I believe. Still until Readers get a bit more established in the Public Mind space, I doubt that anyone's going to squander what limited weight allowance they have when going there taking something that might become a very expensive paperweight .

"Heated" is a kinda relative term. It would depend on just how heated it is, of course. If I remember correctly, I think e-ink starts to get sluggish around ... 40°F or so.

We can put a man on the moon, but can't make a Kindle work in space... sigh...

Sure we can, as long as we keep it warm enough.

I find that my e-ink works just fine at any orientation in the Earth's gravity field. I don't see how the absence of that field would make it suddenly stop working.

I'm trying to imagine the testing that NatCh did to find out if this worked.

Nah, NASA doesn't have the budget anymore to equip astronauts with eReaders. They're so strapped for cash they had to trade in their solid-fuel boosters and fuel tank for a giant bottle of coke and some mentos.
