Gee, my story is boring in comparison... her mom introduced us at church. I was visiting a new church and her mom said something like "I wish my daughter was here so I could introduce you to her." Right on cue, she walked by and Mom grabber her. Lot's of funny things along the way, and a bit of matchmaking by her mom led to marriage eventually. Last year as a matter of fact. But all I remember about that first moment is how adorable she looked and that my heart lept.
![]() BTW, I'm still waiting to hear about the first couple that marries after meeting through MobileRead! Wouldn't that be an awesome thing!? |

Great stories all. My wife and I met via a dating service - strictly off-line as there was no on-line in 1984. First date: I took her to a lousy restaurant, asked her if she wanted mushrooms (she hates them) or some wine (she hates it), and then took her to a movie we both hated. We're coming up on 23 years soon with two terrific daughters to boot.

I received a letter thanking me for the beautiful roses. The address was correct, the name wasn't. So I decided to call the woman to tell her she made a mistake. I reached an answering machine. I hate that, so I didn't leave a message. Next day I tried again, the line was busy. So I thought: Well it was not my mistake, who cares. After a few days I found the letter again and decided to make a last attempt to tell her about the wrong address. This time she answered...we talked for a while and she explained she didn't new the sender and got the address from the flowershop. So they made a mixup somewhere.
We thought it was hilarious and thought it was nice to grab a cup of coffee. Well that was 16 years ago ![]() |

My wife and I met at a bar. (Good start, eh?)
Actually, we both had mutual friends in the printing and graphics professions, in which we both worked, many of us had jumped back and forth between the same shops over time, and over a dozen of those mutuals were all crowded around the bar when I got there. A girl I worked with 2 jobs back, who was at the time working freelance at another printing shop where my future-half worked, introduced me to... my future-half's co-worker, mistakenly thinking I'd much rather talk to someone who shared my particular skin tone. (Heh. It happens.) Co-worker decided she wasn't interested, though, so I quickly shifted my attention to her friend, and soon, I was making a mental note to lose the number of another girl I'd met (through another graphics friend), but who hadn't been returning my calls! |

I met my wife at a "transfer watermelon treat". This was a special welcome party for transfer students to the university I attended. I was not a transfer student but I went anyway as it might be a good way to meet girls. I was right.

We evidently met several times before I realized I'd already met her.
![]() My adle-headedness didn't matter much though, since she was dating some other schmuck at the time. Did I mention that this was in college? She was a frosh and I was a 6th year senior (5 year gap, for those who don't want to do the math themselves). Apparently she thought I was too old until she saw me playing with a bunch of kids and a laser pointer (back when they were still novel) and realized I'm really only about thirteen. But I digress. Anyway, a year or so later I (finally) graduated (hey, when you switch majors from Journalism to Engineering, not much transfers! ![]() Next month will be nine whole years, and we're ~700 miles away from Houston, but still living in the same house, so I guess that's a good sign. ![]() The only dark patch is that we (that's the "marital we" -- usually means only one of us) have been waiting for her to finish her Ph.D. to have kids: she's done now, so I guess my days as an only child are numbered. That's what I tell people when they ask when we're having kids (after six years or so, they really start to pester), I'd tell them that I like being an only child. It's just odd enough that they don't quite know what to make of it, so they get confused and stop asking: problem solved. ![]() |
