So are you recommending in the STR over the STR w/ Glowlight.

Nope. I only bought the STR as a backup to my 650 because it was about $20 on closeout from Radio Shack. Had I paid full price, I would have returned it right away, The interface is a mess. Collections are a pain and if you've ever bought eBooks from B&N, when you use the wifi to register the device, your interface gets flooded with the darn things. Plus, you only get 256MB for your sideloaded eBooks. The rest of the memory if for B&N bought and downloaded eBooks. Overall, it's a mess.

You'd be best to get a Kobo Aura or a Kobo Aura HD. I know the Kobos are more expensive, but they are just better overall and the support here on MR is very good. Just head over to the Kobo forum and you'll see how good it is.

I've tried Kobos but like the Nook better. The fonts, to me, are superior in the Nook and I've got no problem with the Nooks interface (of course, that's what I started with, so I'm used to it). As for 256 MB for sideloaded eBooks, it should be mentioned that the Nook Simple Touch has an accessible microSD slot, unlike the Kobos, so memory is virtually unlimited. But my biggest issue with Kobos (at least the ones I've tried) is that they often leave big spaces on the bottom of the page -- and the formatting often looks "rough" compared to the Nook Simple Touch. As far as I'm concerned, none of the main (widely available) eReaders are as good as the Nook at formatting the page. I also like the wider bezel and the page turn keys on both sides of Nook Simple Touch. Very comfortable and easy to use.

Interesting. Odd that Mantano works (it supposedly requires 2.3).

Thanks for the info.

I know you didn't ask me the question, but I would. (But I have trouble with frontlit eReaders that others don't, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.) The Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight has an extra layer of -- something -- that diffuses the light and dulls the screen for natural light reading. And the fonts (at least some of them) are actually a bit wider than they are on the Nook Simple Touch, which makes the NST w/Glowlight a bit "blockier" than the NST. I like my NST -- at night I use an M-Edge E-Luminator, which works fine for lighting.

I have a Sony PRS-650 and the same exact fonts on the nook look thinner and sometimes like a different font. The font handling on the nook is not all that good. I'm not happy with the font handling on the nook.

The mantano apk I installed is probably an old one.

I think these are long gone. Maybe there's one or two in some store somewhere in the country, but you definitely can't order them online -- and there's none available -- locally -- in the DFW area.

My Sony T2's fonts are much lighter than the Nooks. I don't know if they have the "exact same fonts" however, even though they have the same name. And I think font handling is very good on the Nook. That, and the way the Nook is designed, are the two main reasons I like it better. I guess that's why choice is good, no one product pleases everyone.

I'll find a book that has embedded fonts for you to use to compare. This way you will be sure that you are seeing the same fonts.

Sounds good. Most books I use either don't come with embedded fonts or I bypass the publisher's settings.
