I guess Kobo keeps selling the Glo so they can charge a higher premium price for the Aura 6". Which is pretty much the same device but not identical. As there are some minor technical differences. I guess when buying an Aura you mainly pay for the new tablet look design. A choice that every buyer should make for themselves.
Personally I bought a Glo when my permanently bricked my Touch (old model with flash memory). I am waiting for the release of the new Kindle PaperWhite, which is rumoured to have a high resolution screen (app. 300 dpi) and possible Aura HD killer. At least, it would force the other ereader manufacturers (including Kobo) to respond to introduce devices with similar specs. What about a Aura HD2? |

They are still selling the Glo because they have stock of them.
Sales are hard to predict, and they crafted plans for the Aura quite some time ago. They had to decide when to produce the Aura and when to stop production of the Glo with months of lead time. They gave themselves a buffer of stock on the Glo so that they wouldn't run out while they were making the switch to the Aura. So, quite simply, they have both the Glo and the Aura because they still have stock of the Glo and the Aura is in production now. It's as simple as that. |

For me, none of the Kobo readers are on sale, not even the Aura. Just because there's a sale doesn't mean it because they're emptying stock. Stores often do it just for certain holidays, that's probably all it is for Mother's Day in this instance.
Sometimes a sale is just a sale. |

I bought a Glo because it was $126.99 for the Glo and a sleep cover vs $129.99 for a Glo alone. The Aura was $107.99 with no sleep cover. All prices CDN from Future Shop and Best Buy.
But, I only knew about the Glo because Kobo has been pushing it on TV, the Aura wasn't even on my radar. |

Not that I will likely buy anything from Kobo again (firmware issues have been very bad for me, and if they haven't fixed them in a year or so I am sure it is because they are unable to, not because they don't care) but if a miracle happened I would buy a mini or a glo. They feel better and look better and functionality is the same for my usage.

I've noticed that a number of stores are not stocking the Glo, while they have the Aura 6". Could it be the beginning of the end?

Why do they still sell the Glo? Heck, they still sell the Touch. Like others have said, Apple still sells the second gen iPad and the iPhone 4s from three generations ago. Microsoft and Sony still sell last generation's consoles. Not everyone needs or wants the latest most expensive model. Companies can still make money off of their older models and please consumers who were waiting for a price drop.

I give in, I think you're right. After reading this thread and re-reading through this old thread, I definitely think they should drop the Aura and stick with the Glo.
(Yes, in jest... somewhat. There's still more than enough room for both ereaders to keep consumers happy, they are entirely different animals to most of us.) |

I just ordered an Aura which will hopefully arrive this week. I had all sorts of trouble finding on in Canberra Australia. I ended up ordering it from JB Hifi online which was the cheapest I could find it here in Australia it ended up costing $168 with shipping.
