relaed question:
if sony pulll the reader software also, ( which would be a logical next step for them) how than to manage adobe ID on a sony T series. can't use ADE as ade cannot see the Sony hardware I don't see Kobo destop software getting a new function to manage this... so scenario: I rashly delete sony desktop, I then acquire a T series reader, & I want to borrow library books with it, so its needs an adobe ID, library web site cannot set that up, Kobo web site /desktop can't set that up either, ( Kobo don't use Adobe DRM so zero interest for them ) Adobe won't help because they blame Sony for lack if interoperability... so how can the device authorisation be managed/ changed/removed.... ( well a hard reset would remove an ID, but the more interesting question is how would a new one get added ? ) |

I would guess, in a month or so, Kobo will get their market working on the Sony devices. I hope they can do a fairly clean job of it. |

ade support is built in , yes, but you have to supply your own specific authorisation ID TO the device, hence the need to connect it to SOMETHInG that will do that.
I borrow via PC but I am pretty sure that a new T2/T3 cannot borrow from library unless set up with an ID, Even if it can somehow manage that, it for sure cannot open a library book that you borrowed onto your PC using ADE, & then sideloaed via USB onto the sony reader. For that it has to be using the same adobe ID as your PC is using. so we circle back to will sony continue support desktop software even when there's no longer a shop for that software to access ? NB with the older PRS650, ADE v2 could do everything for you, including authorise/de-authorise. With the newer models, only the Sony software can do that job ( of activating your reader, using the adobe Id that is on your PC ) |

I don't think I ever tried to read the book in ADE, but Calibre sees it fine. I think I did connect my Nook Simple Touch to ADE (just to see if it worked), but that's about all I've done with it -- I remember now, that there's a trick in Wine's configuration required for ADE to see the eReader -- Windows users shouldn't have that problem. As for hardware product support, I would think (at least hope) that the Sony Desktop software would be downloadable on Sony's site for a while (at least for a few years) as the Reader is a Sony product, not a Kobo one. I know Sony support currently is available there -- and the newest version of the Desktop connects you to Kobo's store, not Sony's. (I haven't tried it, I'm just going by the description ...) "This utility updates the Reader™ for PC software to version 2.3.00.03130 and provides the following benefits: "The "Reader™ Store" icon and link is replaced with the "Kobo Store" icon and link to enable direct access to the Kobo eBook Store. "Note: For full access to the Kobo eBook Store, account registration may be required." http://esupport.sony.com/CA/p/swu-do...os_group_id=13 So the Reader Desktop should be supported with the hardware by Sony -- the closing of the Sony Reader stores should not change that. Well... I just tried buying a book from Kobo... bought it successfully... never gave me the option of format. All this done via the Reader for PC app from Sony...
I then connected my reader. Synced with the new book... and I can't read it in the reader due to "Protected by Digital Rights Management" error message!! arghhh... |

Kobo returned my money for the three books purchased... things should not be this hard. More and more I am thinking about just giving in and getting a Kindle....

The store is extremely bare-bones. You can search for books or browse the "Top 50" for the day, but there doesn't appear to be any way to sort books brought up in the search. The backward and forward buttons don't work on the T2 -- you just have to use the touch screen (I'm guessing that's the way the T2 works on the Internet). But, for all that, it's still kind of nice to have a store right on the device. I'm guessing it will more refined as Kobo tweaks their store front for the Sony devices. (Or maybe this is just how the Kobo store works on Kobos also?) |

EDIT: Now I'll have to buy a book that costs something, so I can check to make sure payment system works -- which is probably the least of my worries (I would imagine that has priority). Last edited by rcentros; 06-16-2014 at 01:36 AM. |

I had the same thing happen, bought a book, but could not open due to DRM. When I contacted Kobo they indicated that it was a publisher problem. They offered either a refund or store credit and removed the book. I really wanted the book so I purchased it from eBooks.com.

(Just curious if this is normal behavior for the Kobo Store, or the Sony Reader? I hope I don't have to use the Reader Software to delete it permanently, since I can't use it on Linux.) Last edited by rcentros; 06-16-2014 at 02:22 AM. |

Thank you. For my travel I just went and bought a paperback book (The Winner by David Baldacci). It was good for the travel to where I was going and that was it... nothing to read on the way back.
I see now that the T1 can go in and download directly without the need for anything else. Good. I just did the test with one of their free ebooks. Too bad none of the new David Baldacci books have DRM... I will have to get those elsewhere then. Thank you again. |

Humm... if I do a search in the Kobo store, I can't seem to scroll to the next pages of results.
Also, how were you able to tell that it had DRM?? Let me try the eBooks site mentioned. |
