No, I stick to the current one because "it just works". My Touch is on 2.15 and my aura HD on 2.51. I updated last year, didn't like the results, downgraded my readers and promised myself never again. But I am tempted to upgrade now, to get pocket.

What release notes? I decide whether or not to upgrade after watching this forum for 2-4 weeks after new firmware is released. I am currently on 3.1.1 with patches applied, and it works almost perfectly for me. The only feature I would upgrade for at this point is the ability to double-tap on pictures to make them full screen (for sideloaded epubs). The ability to hide the header/footer in 3.3.0 is also very tempting, but not quite enough to make me upgrade just yet.

I wait until to see what other people experience with the update to see what things are fixed or broken.

I always upgrade as soon as my Kobo tells me an update is available.
I never seem to have the problems that others report, but that might be because I don't use SD cards, or annotations, or the dictionary (much), or collections. I just READ! |

Like you I read but I do use collections and the dictionary. Trust me I do complain a lot to the devs about annoyances... Page turns, font displays, lack of sorting by series, and on and on. |

I have two Kobo Touch. On the one, I sideload the newest FW as soon as it is available to satisfy my curiosity. On the other, I stay with 2.6.1. And this is the device I mainly use for reading. The reason for keeping 2.6.1 is that is working nice for me, and that the support for the Japanese dictionary gets worser with almost each update. Under 3.2 and 3.3 the Japanese dictionary is almost useless (although selecting text is easier). Maybe this is the reason why Rakuten stays with 2.6.0 (apart from Aura 6).

I used to upgrade as soon as Metazoa would release a new patch with new features I cared about. Since he stopped adding features I care about I stopped updating the firmware

I lived through FW 2.0 days on the Touch where you had to tap the screen multiple times to get the page to turn. Now I am very cautious and slow in upgrading firmware as I don't have any issues and have started buying all my books via the Kobo store on the device.

I used to do #1, but since I've run into the can't sync without rebooting problem on my HD, I haven't upgraded since. I might take the plunge again, but not with 3.3. Maybe 4.0? We'll see.

Oh, I've kept an eye out on that. In fact, my last upgrade was based on GeoffR's addition — the 15 positions for line spacing, firmware 3.1.1. If something else comes out that I feel is a must have I'll upgrade again, but for now I'm content with what I have.

I have a Touch and a Glo. I usually wait until I'm hearing good things, or at least not hearing bad things, and then update one, usually the Glo. I may start leapfrogging both of them, but mostly I leave the Touch a version behind as a fully working backup in case the Glo takes an upgrade hit. I mostly ignore the bells and whistles and just read, so a lot of "issues" have been non-issues for me since I'm not interested in annotations, etc.
