iTunes on Macs runs quite well. On Windows, not so much. I hated that they screwed with the ID3 tags I had entered when I did an upgrade the one time. I haven't been able to get my Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy radio plays fixed up since. It's a gigantic pain in the ass removing them, reuimporting them from the CDs and then redoing the ID3 tags again so they can at least show up under the same places.

When I had iTunes on my Windows PC it simply wouldn't shut down. I uninstalled it and the problem went away.

Not everyone dies in a plane crash either. Still better to avoid plane crashes. Seriously, iTunes is a dog and a hog. A veritable barnyard. |

I can't, because I don't know what the alternatives are. I don't know about them, because I've always been happy with iTunes. What other products are there which will allow me to manage my large audio library on my PC, edit tags, create playlists, manage the contents on my iPhone and iPad, etc?

I'm asking for personal recommendations, based on what you (and other people) have found to work well.

I do have an old iPod Video in our minivan attached to the DVD system for watching movies. It can be managed directly with an old version of Sharepod which does not require any iTunes components (or ANY installed software) on the PC at all. I hear about MediaMonkey quite a lot, but I never cared for it. And I've never been clear on whether or not it requires iTunes to be installed as well. ApK |

I always wonder why people who have no desire to own or use an Apple product always seem to show up in Apple related discussions.
![]() There is none, because the software and hardware is closed-sourced. The only way around it would be to get a third-party music app that lets you put it in server mode and push files over. |
