Therefore I have installed so far what I have been reading that it is the obligatory base package: JB + rescue pack + MKK + Kual + USBNet. I have to decide and undestand on how to go further. As for those little applications, I was complaining that there are a few simples ones that I have expected to work but they actually don't (3DMaze, Calculator, Sudoku, etc), the screen is blinking once and that's it, nothing else happens. I will delete them, although Calculator might have been interesting. Another application I am interested in, but I am not clear if it has been developped for and working on the (Linux) KPW2 is Weather Station. There is a thread on this topic but from the fast reading I've retained the ides that it might be for Kinlde with Android. I could be wrong however, I am not at all familiar with the models, PW2 is my first Kindle. And I have purched it because it runs Linux. Hm, I have been reading here and there that JB is solving that zero light level, but maybe I am mistaken. |

Glad to see you agree on that point then
![]() The PW2 is a completely different beast from other models, so while technically still falling under the K5 family, it does need special attention, depending on exactly what the app/script does. And since a lot of the stuff you mentioned have been developed/last updated well before the PW2 appeared, that's not terribly surprising. AFAIR, the original weather stuff was done on a K4, I don't quite see how you ended up thinking of K4A? Anyway, that's pretty straightforward stuff, and it should be fairly portable with a minimum of effort if need be. And I even think the last time this was discussed (fairly recently) was on K5 devices. And yeah, I can assure eyou that the light definitely has nothing to do with the JB. The JB has one job only, and that's letting you install custom OTA packages, period. On the other hand, there's probably scripts to control the light further (besides in-app control for full readers like KOReader or CR), but that's, well, completely separate from the JB ![]() |

PW2 Front Light Master extension should let you do pretty much anything with the light, including turn it off competely.

Now another thing: while deleting some non-working applications from the Extension Folder , I am not sure that I did not also delete by mistake some still usefulll folders or files. Could someone please advise on how to check / repair this or do an onstall of the stock nearest image version? Thank you! P.S. What application can you please recommend for my KPW2 in order to take screen captures? |

2) The "extensions" folder is not part of the stock image. That is the part of the directory tree used by MR extensions. So use the "un-install" (if the add-on has one) and then just "install" again the add-on you think you have broke. 3) Should be a built-in feature. Two finger it, upper left and lower right, or upper right and lower left corners of the screen. (I don't have a PW2, I am unsure which diagonal pair of corners it is.) |

So on the first question, please let me rephrase: how can I rebuild the Extension folder if on purpose deleting? I do not exclude deleting all the applications installed, which are not so many anyway. EDIT: But I think that there were some file of folder put there by default when creating "Extensions". Was that Kual's contribution? Last edited by axelPW2; 04-22-2014 at 09:09 AM. |

Just re-install everything "KUAL" that you are interested in (including re-installing KUAL and its prerequisites). If you want to be really sure of no extra "stuff" - just delete the /extensions directory (and its sub-tree) first. |

Do you mean that either diagonal should work? OK, I have noticed that the screencaptures are saved at /mnt/us. Now, how can I copy/move them to my Windows pc, please? Or do I need a Linux machine for that? Last edited by axelPW2; 04-22-2014 at 11:11 AM. |

It means I don't have a PW2 and do not know which pair works (or doesn't work).

I can confirm that both diagonals are working for taking screenshots. The screenshots are placed in /mnt/us which means I can see them in root directory of the external Kindle drive. Should have reconnected the Kindle to the PC, would have discovered that by myself, sorry for that. Anyway, the Windows PC does not see anything past that root directory of the external Kindle drive, so how can I proceed for copying into the PC the current screensavers located at /usr/share/blanket/screensaver/ Do I need a Linux computer for that, please? |

![]() - - - - Install the USBnetworking add-in for your Kindle model; You might find that the USBnetworking control buttons for KUAL are easier to use for a newbee; So you may want to install KUAL before USBnetworking. Use Putty for Windows as the ssh client (Mac has a "real" ssh client pre-installed). Lots and lots of posts and threads here about using ssh (and putty). |

Hi guys, I have a jailbroken PW2 with MKK and KUAL plus USBnetworking, plus BBB firewall, all running under FW 5.4.3.1.
1. Am I allowed to do a Restart or a Reset of the device without loosing the above installations? (I know only that I might have to load again the BBB filter) 2. Is the BBBfilter preventing for sure any Amazon update or do I need to install something additional? (I intend to use wifi for regular browsing) Thank you! But I don't own a PW2 and have no way to know if it may be missing some new part of the Amazon network. For controlling OTA updates - The better choice is the "Backdoor Lock". |
