I appreciate the suggestions and offers of help -I may take you up on that eventually David.
Well, I fished out the AAA battery powered booklight and finished the book on the Touch, and have moved on as it's part of a series.(I love my Glo, but the Touch with a good external light does provide greater contrast, shame the light is such a pain and adds weight) If I get bored maybe I'll dig into it just to see why. It bothers me that it passed in Sigil, but still didn't work on the Glo... I really don't want to play html boy and diddle through it to see where the problem exists. OTOH it is split into 4 parts so maybe I'll import them separately into sigil in empty shells and see what happens with the individual parts output as separate books... Could be something stupid like the TOC being screwed in a way that Sigil & FlightCrew & the Calibre Viewer are "smart" enough to ignore as the Calibre Viewer only shows START on the TOC. Having programmed for 30+ years and tinkered with electronics from the component level up longer it really bugs me when something hiccups and gives the user no reason why. I really hate being treated like a mushroom, and I'm intrigued by why it works on 3.0.0 on the Touch and not on 3.2.0 on the Glo -just not enough to roll the Glo back to 3.0.0 to see.(Only around 350 books, but it still takes two forevers) But I might be tempted to upgrade the Touch N905B... Probably more tempted after I check the rest of the titles in the series to make sure they all work on 3.2.0 ;-) |

After opening it in Sigil and checking, did you save it? Sigil parses and internally rewrites the code when an epub is opened. Something like the problem I mentioned would be fixed by this and not seen when you look at in Sigil. If you didn't save the file, you would still be using the old version. I have had a few problematic epubs that opening in Sigil and saving fixed the problems.

Yes, I saved it. Really odd. It was late the other night when I looked at it, but looking again it seems that the epub was pieced together for some reason because part of it has calibre codes and some of it is double spaced between paragraphs. In light of this, it's not fair to be too upset at Kobo, despite the file working in 3.0.0 on the Touch, but it is a little odd...
More when I find time to diddle with it. Maybe this weekend. Is there any other validation or cleanup tool anyone might recommend I download? |

I just use Sigil. If the source epub is really bad, I might run a conversion in calibre. That can sometime clean it up and make it easier to fix. But, usually I just use Sigil and lots of regex. And I'm using Sigil rather than the calibre editor mainly out of habit. The calibre editor is handy as it doesn't fiddle with the code when it opens.
I do have epubcheck, but I only use it when I am debugging a problem like this. That usually means someone sent me a book that wasn't working and I did the check before fiddling with the file. |

It should be noted that just because the iOS app rolls out a release, it does not mean a release of any of our other software is imminent. Different teams have different release cycles. In addition, a certain feature appearing on a specific platform does not always indicate that functionality will make it to other platforms. The Home / Library themes and reading themes in the new iOS app might not make too much sense on an eInk screen. |

I did minor touch ups of purchased (no DRM) .epubs with Sigil on the Glo and also some FadedPage .epubs that I removed pg numbers with regex. Offending section for one books is Code:
<body> <p><a id="tp"></a></p><?dp n="1" folio="" ?> <?dp n="2" folio="" ?> <?dp n="3" folio="" ?> <?dp n="4" folio="" ?> <div class="centerAligned"><img alt="001" class="imgepub" src="../Images/jeff_9780861719709_oeb_001_r1.jpg" /></div><?dp n="5" folio="" ?> </body> Offending section where it opens/stalls for second .epub is quite simple [code <style type="text/css"> @page {padding: 0pt; margin:0pt} body { text-align: center; padding:0pt; margin: 0pt; } div { margin: 0pt; padding: 0pt; } </style> </head> <body> <div><img alt="cover" src="../Images/cover.jpg" style="height: 100%" /></div> [/code] It is the first .html in text and has cover under semantics. Other rough edges, two computers have Calibre 1.22 from Debian backports while seperate Windows 7 partition has Calibre 1.31. The 1.22 complains that the filesystem is not totally work I did a search for <br> and did not find any. Anybody else had any luck? Affected .epubs will open to the same initial page and freeze and go to Finished. Setting to unread, and syncing does not work. The affected .epubs do not have <br> as Davidfor mentioned that above as one snag that will make this happen. When syncing with Kobo, it will sometimes hang at 35 or 50% Resyncing does not cure, but it will not hang after a second sync. Options, wait for updates and see if that fixes? Factory reset? Sigh. |

the desktop app updated to 3.7.0 - and the first report of FW 3.3.0 installing on a Glo is here for those who do not look at the Developers' corner forum.

For those that doubted it, the newest firmware was released within in the time frame my Friend reported it would be. Or very close to it any way.
