I would definitely add Elmore Leonard to the list, especially his earlier books.

I'll second "The Walking Drum". This was one of my absolute favorite L'Amour books. |

Scott Mariani looks interesting and for 77 cents at WH Smith thats an excellent price. I wonder if WH Smith has any qualms about selling to this side of the pond or is there story restricted to Great Brittan?

How about Robert B. Parker's Spenser series?
(My favorite Louis L'Amour was Bowdrie's Law, a compilation of short stories. My mother *loved* Louis L'Amour, which is why I have every book of his.) |

For adventure books with zero romance, ie. the wife and kids come last and are rarely mentioned, Stephen Hunter comes to mind. Helen |

Stephen Hunter
Point of Impact Black Light Time to Hunt Required, and in that order, to start with. Dirty White Boys can be skipped and might be best skipped. His other works are variable, but the latest, Third Bullet, is pretty good. It centers around the JFK assassination. |

H. Rider Haggard? His works are here at MR. Perhaps Lester Dent's Doc Savage books? Though I'm not sure how many are currently available either in paper or ebook format. Then there are the Mars books by E.R. Burroughs as well as his Tarzan books.

Following your recommendation I am about to finish my first Mariani's Ben Hope book, and you were right: gripping as hell! Thanks

I think The Martian by Andy Weir qualifies as mens adventure.

I've been enjoying the "Rogue Angel" series by the pseudonym Alex Archer. Not about a man, but in the same adventure vein as Tomb Raider.
They are by Gold Eagle as well, so you know what to expect. |

Matthew Reilly, although I prefer his earlier work (Scarecrow series) to the more recent series.
